But the old brain is getting dulled with time. ;-) I also remember Michele Pfieffer and her husband David Kelly, sisters and daughters of Papa John Phillips, MacKenzie and Bijou (who I sat next to one night and they had more stars in their eyes than I did over Joni); Nicolette Sheridan, and I heard later that some people sitting with Graham were noteworthy but the memory is dim now. I'd had the magical luck to meet Joni's art director, Robbie Cavolina, at a party the weekend before and received a personal invitation from him to attend. He took all jmdlers still in the house to personally meet Joni after the first night and we all had complete heart attacks ;-) > >9.Were her paintings bolted down? ;-) > > Didn't check. :( They weren't!! Also, synchronicity - we used to have a young teenager on the jmdl, Mariana, who I think was around 14 when she joined the list. She also attended the PWWAM taping along with her Joni fan mom who was younger than some of us, ahem. Tonight I just happened to get an email from her after two years! She is a sophmore at USC film school now and is taking a class on Classic Rock where she is currently having an argument with the teacher regarding CSNY's vs. Joni's story of how Woodstock came to be written LOL. We have had many offshore for a number of years but especially after the oil spill that Kate mentioned, any new ones since have been fought against. That spill was really devastating to the offshore islands and sea life. We have so much pollution running off into the ocean already from having millions of people living right next to the shore, that we don't need to add to it! When I was growing up, the fishing was wonderful and you could there were lots of little lobsters and abalone right on the shore. They all disappeared as waste pollution killed off the kelp beds. The kelp beds have been restored but one still hears that no one should eat the fish they catch unless it came from 100 miles offshore. It's a very fragile situation. Though I had been a Joni Mitchell fan from my college and her "Court and Spark" days, I had lost touch with Joni's music. The first time I heard Jaco play his bass solo at the end of the song, I remember jumping up and down screaming because of the awesome creativity and talent of this "guy" I'd never heard of! (Not taking anything away from Michael Brecker's awesome sax solo on the song either!) My friend was a bassist whom I respected immensely. When I told him my ultimate joy of finding Joni again and discovering Jaco Pastorius, words could not describe the look of pure satisfaction on his face for having someone really "get" Jaco's musical style. Truer words by Pat Metheny were never spoken concerning Jaco Pastorius. I am a fan for life!
