"Lips Together, Teeth Apart" is a brilliant play. (I was very lucky to spend several hours with Terrence when he came to Tel-Aviv some years ago btw) One of the characters, Sam Truman, suffers from a "grinding teeth in his sleep problem". In the last scene, his wife, Sally, reveals it to the others: Sally: It's a horrible sound. I can't sleep. Tell them how the doctor is treating you, Sam. Sam: No, it's stupid. Sally: He wantes him to fall asleep saying "Lips together, teeth apatrt" over and over again to himself. Sam: It's very romantic. "What did you say, darling?" "Nothing, dearest, lips together, teeth apart. Do you want to make love tonight? Lips together, teeth apart". Sally: He won't even try it. I'm the one who falls asleep saying it for him! Last weekend I went to hear Dan Newton at the Coffee Grounds, a coffee house in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is with the Cafe Accordion Orchestra and he also plays as Daddy Squeeze. I saw him as the latter. It was so wonderful to be within several feet of his playing...sipping a latte...and talking with friends. That boy can play the blues, tango, musette, anything on the accordion. Also last week, Mary Louise Knutson...a wonderful jazz pianist, played for my friend Phyllis' birthday party. She came to the house and played for 2 hours! It was a gift from Phyllis' partner. To sit in the room or wander around and hear her play was such a treat. She stayed afterward and listened to us mortals perform our music for Phyllis. And Willy, you are so right about JoniFest. A little over 6 months to go. I am beginning to think of tunes... :) But until then...we will soon have out videos and we can listen to our CD's to bring back all sorts of memories. You are a wonderful memory Willy. I have heard nothing over the years positive about that woman but I read the book and rather enjoyed it. She and Janis were quite involved and if Janis loved her, then what business is it of mine. Only she knows. The site went on to say that the other movie was sanctioned by the Joplin family. Makes me wonder if they are somehow trying to sanitize Janis and who and what she was-something she never did and would not approve of. If here now, would she be spending time with the "well-smelt baskets"-alastair reid, or still ruffling feathers and doing it her way. We all know the answer to that. I will also try to think of some wonderful prize as well if I can. Why don't a few of us dontate a prize for the winner of the contest. I have a poster of Joni that can go in the prize basket. If it's okay with you Ashara, we can open this up to anyone else who would like to add to the prize. It can be joni related or other wise, what do you think? Put me down for the poster and I will bring it to the Jonifest. love to all, Marianne _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 Feb 2002 15:32:00 +0800 (PHT) From: Subject: Sophie's Choice (NJC) > Yes,while driving last night,REMAINS OF THE DAY,popped in my head. Meryl Streep appeared in Oprah many seasons ago and she related how it was very very difficult for her to film the scene where she was made to choose which child will have to go. She told the director that she wouldn't want to revisit Sophie's dilemma because as a mother, she can relate. When one watches the film, its hard to fight back tears.
