I had a great Birthday week ... the older you get the longer you need to celebrate, right?... it started with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from John in Holland a week before my actual Birthday. I returned from Holland unfortunately on Wednesday the 10th, so John and I celebrated via two long distance phone conversations. I spend the day though with close friends, made dinner for everyone at my friends house in the country, looked at a gorgeous star filled sky at night from a Hot Tub, and felt all around blessed with having such wonderful friends close by, no matter how far away. Richard has been to LA though in the late 1970s. He accepted an offer to play drums with a country rock band called Cooper Dodge (are you familiar with them)? He spent the next decade out in Southern California. He was in awe of the Byrds. He has met Michael Clarke. Nancy and he went to a Grammy party when he was signed with Warner Bros. where he wanted desperately to meet David Crosby, to which he did:0) He met Peter Noone who was a label mate on Cypress. Peter was interested in some of his songs, which included a track from his "Actual Size"EP entitled "Hoosier" It was Peter who wanted to sing some of Richard's songs. I've seen variants on this warning come through on other listservs, one involving some kind of fruit that was supposed to kill the people who ate it and one having to do with something called the "Midas Touch". Here are a few tip-offs that this is a hoax: 1) This "Forward this message to everyone you know" business. If it were really meant as a warning about the Greek army, why tell anyone to post it to the Phoenicians, Sumerians, and Cretans? 2) Use of exclamation points. Always a giveaway. 3) It's signed "from Poseidon". Granted he's had his problems with Odysseus but he's one of their guys, isn't he? Besides, the lack of a real header with a detailed address makes me suspicious. 4) Technically speaking, there is no way for a horse to overwrite your entire city. A horse is just an animal, after all. Next time you get a message like this, just delete it. I appreciate your concern, but once you've been around the block a couple times you'll realize how annoying this kind of stuff is. McCartney News NJC PAUL MCCARTNEY TO SING AT THE SUPER BOWL LEADING TRIBUTE TO EVERYDAY HEROES PAUL McCARTNEY will perform at Super Bowl XXXVI in New Orleans, LA on Sunday, Feb. 3, when he will lead a tribute to the spirit of everyday heroes, the NFL announced today. Paul has accepted a request to give a unique performance that will symbolize the theme of the game's celebration of the heroism that has followed the events of September 11th. As the climax to the pre-game show and immediately prior to the singing of the two traditional anthems 'America The Beautiful' and 'The Star-Spangled Banner', Paul McCartney will perform a new anthem reflecting the spirit of freedom. "The Super Bowl will be a celebration of the human spirit," said NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. "We will salute those who have helped make us stronger since September 11 and recognize those who will make a difference in every community. We are delighted that Paul McCartney has agreed to lead this tribute to freedom and everyday heroes." Paul McCartney's performance will involve 500 young people symbolically representing the 180 countries that will telecast the Super Bowl from the Louisiana Superdome. The game - typically the most-watched US television event of the year - will be seen on FOX by 130 million viewers in America, and to 800 million viewers worldwide. The pregame show, "FREEDOM" will be televised its entirety, a first in Super Bowl history. Said Paul McCartney: "As a sports fan, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved in the Super Bowl, and as a musician, I am honored to add my voice to the message of tribute that this year's Super Bowl will carry." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 00:47:07 -0500 From: dsk Subject: Re: NYC gig at the Living Room !!!!! Keep blaming the Swedes, Catherine. Nothing wrong with that. As long as you keep the Muppets' Swedish Chef out. Just thinking of him has me in stitches again. Terry Jacks? The only man on earth who managed to fuck up a Jacques Brel song??? (JB is one of my heroes, right out there with Joni, Bruce Cockburn and the French chansonnihre Barbara) Ouch, Catherine, that memory hurt. He should have been seasoned and fried in the sun. John P.S. I once was seriously wondering why it was that my most favourite 'English-language' artists came (originally) from Canada - and why I loved this underproduced, almost 'woody' style of playing so much: The Band, Robbie Robertson, Kate & Anna McGarricle, Bruce Cockburn, Neil Young, Joni, Gorden Lightfoot, (very) early Bryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, Loreena McKennitt - and currently Sarah Harmer. You're certainly forgiven for Anne Murray. Terry Jacks ... forget it, no amount of forgiveness will be sufficient. ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2002 #28 **************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
