Garret, Selling "this sort of stuff to us" is how songwriters make a living, just as they do when we buy recordings of their songs. I understand you need sheet music in a hurry; there are many online vendors that will sell you sheet music image files for popular songs that you can download and print yourself, paying with credit card I assume. Just go to Google or some other search engine, enter "sheet music" and "download" and you'll get gobs of links. Some have a few free downloads of public domain songs, but that doesn't include Vanessa Williams and Bryan Adams. You're right, the song titles are screwy, as is common with boots. <> Yes, this is their 1970 concert, broadcast on the BBC (hence the good sound). This show has been booted as a lot of different titles ("He's Got A Friend Named Joni", "For Free" among others), and was treed early on here and included the soundcheck songs. The one you have is out of order and incomplete. This show was most likely recorded in early December '70 and was broadcast on 12/20/70. <> Winter Lady is a '72 show, I think...I'll have to check out the details on that one. Spring Songs is her Feb '74 show at Duke University (right in your backyard, John). The 2-record boot documents about half of the show, I think. We have a list member who was at that show! And apparently you can even get songs this way!! The mind boggles at the use of technology sometimes!!! I had never understood this phrase, although i'm sure i have come across it before. When i have more time i intend to shop around on these sites a little more! We got the songs we needed, more or less. We needed Annies Song (this is the only song we used at last year's service) which wasn't hard to find, but that other song, theVanessa Williams one, is pretty elusive (although personally i'm gald we couldn't find that one; my mother and i aren't to into the idea of this; but hey, everyone to their own!). Mostly they were traditional arrangments we needed; church songs, including amazing grace and ave maria. I did get a pointer from another JMDLer to a site with some of the hymns needed for the service! Indeed, when we saw the choice on offer we felt spoilt! And there was me (selfishly) trying to get Joni in there somewhere; but even i had to admit that she really doesn't have anything that suits both the atmosphere of the occasion and the type of music the family could find palatable. Although, they did consider the arguement i made for cat stevens! We really tried to get a song called "auntie maggies remedy", but couldn't find it. that would have been ideal, but we're happy with what we have already. One more request: i'm looking for a few short lines (from a poem, a song, whatever) to do, perhaps, with keeping somebody special in memory, and/or to do with wedding bells, and/or love in general. I'm not too sure what i want really; it's to put in the notices section of the newspaper. This is all a last minute arrangement and unfortunately i'm totally stuck for suggestions! I'm sure there's someone on the list that can make some great suggestions or give some good advice! There always is:) Any and all help would be much appreciated. Thanks. My favourite character, of course, was a lady wizard by the name of Galadriel. And when the traverllers came to her kingdom before they had to venture off into very dangerous places and everything, she gave them a vial of light and she said "take this vial and whenever you're in a dark place, take it out" you know. Well, being into metaphors a lot myself, I decided that what she probably was giving them was a memory of a beautiful time, and with that interpretation and her hope and her memory, well [ strumming/tuning] i borrowed a phrase from him "the wilderland" which was a place that they had to go through, and the wilderland is just like it sounded; it's a wilderness and full of all kinds of hairy monsters and things, just like life. [strumming/tuning]. I knew that one was out. So, i call this song "I Think I Understand, Fear Is Like A Wilderland" Daylight falls upon the path The forest falls behind Today I am not prey to dark uncertainty The shadow trembles in its wrath I've robbed its blackness blind And tasted sunlight as my fear came clear to me I think I understand Fear is like a wilderland Stepping stones or sinking sand Now the way leads to the hills Above the steeple's chime Below me sleepy rooftops round the harbor It's there I'll take my thirsty fill Of friendship over wine Forgetting fear but never disregarding her Oh, I think I understand Fear is like a wilderland Stepping stones or sinking sand Sometimes voices in the night Will call me back again Back along the pathway of a troubled mind When forests rise to block the light That keeps a traveler sane I'll challenge them with flashes from a brighter time Oh, I think I understand Fear is like a wilderland Stepping stones and sinking sand." HOT PRESS MAGAZINE, MARCH 30TH 2000 "I admit that the first songs I wrote were not very soul-searching. They were very young. Lines like 'night in the city looks pretty to me.' Although I did write 'Both Sides Now' as one of those first ten songs. But that is half naive and half worldly. Each verse alternates in that way. Elaborating on the genesis of one of her most famous songs Joni explains that its roots also stem, in part, from a fairy tale she was writing. "It was called Mythology, and focused on a place that had two kingdoms. It was kind of like childhood Zen. The kingdom of Fanta and the kingdom of Real. Fantasy, reality. And 'Both Sides Now' came out of that mythology, from Siquomb, the queen of that mythology. It was a children's story! And yet people say it's narcissistic because I'm referring to myself. But it was the queen of the kingdom of Fanta singing. And the whole idea probably came from my reading Lord of The Rings. That was a direct influence." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2002 19:04:36 EST From: Murphycopy@aol.com Subject: Re: Lord of the Rings revisited (njc) In a message dated 1/14/02 1:22:14 PM, kate@katebennett.com writes: << I wanted to be Galadriel (or at least find out where she got that incredible dress with sparkling lights) >> Probably borrowed it from Jimmy or Paz. --Bob ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2002 16:21:40 -0800 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: RE: Lord of the Rings revisited (njc) lol...paz willya bring it to namm this weekend? << I wanted to be Galadriel (or at least find out where she got that incredible dress with sparkling lights) >> Probably borrowed it from Jimmy or Paz. --Bob ******************************************** Kate Bennett www.katebennett.com sponsored by Polysonics Discover the Indies at Taylor Guitars: http://www.taylorguitars.com/artists/awp/indies/bennett.html ******************************************** In a message dated 1/14/02 1:22:14 PM, kate@katebennett.com writes: ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2002 19:18:05 EST From: KLCass21@aol.com Subject: Re: Joni & James in London In a message dated 1/14/2002 3:08:05 AM Eastern Standard Time, les@jmdl.com writes: > The next one is a show with Joni and James Taylor. Hi All - I'm new to the list (my first posting - I hope I do it right!). Joni fan for 16 years now. The Joni/James recording sounds like a bootleg my college roommate found at a flea market called "Two to Tango". He taped it for me, but tragically, my sister taped over it with some 80's fluff by a Soap star turned musician! I recall Joni talking about her dulcimer plus James jamming with Joni on California. Not sure if it was a BBC radio show but I do know it was recorded in London. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2002 16:32:36 -0800 (PST) From: Alison E Subject: Re: NJC - January 13th Happy BIrthday Claud! wish i could give you a birthday hug. i'll bet john does a good one for me. love and miss you both, alison e. in slc - --- FMYFL@aol.com wrote: > Thirteen *is* our lucky number because we get to all > wish one of the > sweetest, most talented, extremely beautiful, and > more precious than silver > among our wonderful family............a very happy > birthday. > > Claudia Sansoucie (aka Claud9) > > H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y > CLAUD > > We love you sweetie! > > DBF Jimmy (filling in for Wally) Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! Are you wet or dry? Well! There are a number of ways to interpret that question, but I'll keep it seemly, for the sake of those more delicate JMDLers! Thanks for your concern, Colin. It's rather ironic that the country closest to us is having major problems with bush fires! The floods have not affected Auckland - they're mainly confined to those towns/areas near areas of native bush, and hilly terrain. But those areas hit have been hit pretty hard. Massive flooding and land-slides taking out roads, bridges, etc. It's amazing to think we were facing a power crisis six months ago (in the middle of winter) because the water levels in our hydro-electric lakes were so low! This is pretty typical January weather, though. Rain for four days, then clear blue skies for a couple of days, then back to more rain! Anyone considering visiting New Zealand, and wants to see it in summer, should be warned that February - late March is a much better time, and there's far more chance of getting good weather!
