No expert but glad you said you are taking her to the vet as soon as possible. I can't think of anything else to do. Maybe she ate something bad but it doesn't sound good. I lost my precious Prissy this year to cancer because I waited too long and tried home remedies and other peoples advice. She was 14 and i loved her so. I had a cat before her named Sherman and he came down with kitty leukemia and did pretty much the same thing as what you are describing now. I got him to the vet quickly (Prissy's sx were much more insidious) and he lived another 7 years after being diagnosed with feline leukemia. The dr. treated him with interferon. Like I said, no expert, but I would just put the sweet thing in a dark, dry, comfortable space until the trip to the vet. When cats are sick, they like to be in places like that. I haven't helped much but I feel for you and the puss. Good luck and please let me know what happens. I had the great honour of attending this concert and it continues to amaze me how something so complex was pulled together in such a short span of time, one month. The concert began with us all standing up to sing The Star Spangled Banner which was overwhelming in itself...I have never seen this happen before...the American National anthem sung at a Canadian folk venue..it was so special and I thought my heart would burst wide open with pride and sorrow all at once. The concert ended with a hair-standing-on-end version of Blowing in the Wind which poured into the Mary Ellen Carter, another wonderful Stan song. It was my absolute privilege to meet and speak with Ariel Rogers who was married to our very own Stan Rogers, Canadian icon/folk singer/man of passion ...Stan was a gentle giant, story teller extraordinaire speaking from the heart and soul of every day life...Stan was a big fan of Joni Mitchell . Meeting Ariel was an incredible moment for me, as special and precious as so many of the Joni moments which others on the list have shared. And only a few days later, at the Garnet Rogers concert Friday night, Brian and I met her again. Ariel is down to earth; and she graciously shared her warmth and stories and laughter with us. Ariel is an incredible, special person who was one of the many driving forces behind this project. On the CD is an unreleased Stan tune entitled Jamie (written by Mark Rust, recorded live by Howard Evans at the Bermuda Folk Club 1978) which Ariel, her son David and her husband Scott Cameron Smith performed. Brought us all to tears. Spooky how the lyrics speak to the situation of today. When I spoke with Scott Cameron Smith, a performer and one of the producers, he asked me to pass along to my honey that this project was for him and for all of the Americans, for everyone affected by the waves of September 11th. It was such a touching, overwhelming evening. I have never in my life seen Canadians come together in this way to support our neighbours south of the border. I get all weepy just remembering this night of magic and hope. My words can never do this night justice and I am sure that we have all cried Tears of a Thousand Years over this terrible tragedy. thanks for the bandwidth. Popular culture seems to demand that a few of its icons die each generation through suicide, drug overdose, murder, and any number of spectacular deaths. But then we're confronted with the premature deaths of Laura Nyro, Dusty Springfield, George Harrison. To me, George is the first megastar to die in late middle age of a late middle age illness. It's pretty sobering. I hate death. I hate the idea of a judgemental afterlife almost as much as I fear the concept of eternal oblivoion. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Dec 2001 08:52:41 EST From: Mitch327@aol.com Subject: Here Comes The Sun Hi All, De-lurkers unite! I haven't been too active in the JMDL since September 11th, although I do read some of them from time to time. The last memory I had of it before the tragedy was reading all of the posts about the Joni-fest held up in New England. I live in New York, and worked in the World Trade Center complex for about 12 years (I have worked in Connecticut for the last 3 years). I was working on the top floor of 7 World Trade Center (now gone) back in 1993 when the first bombing took place, and still have memories of that. George Harrison's death (at age 58) also brings back memories for me, having lost my mother to cancer (at age 56). But it was looking out my window this morning, seeing this beautiful sunny morning, and recalling Harrison's song, that finally prompted me to check in with everyone. Still finding comfort in music. I'm looking at the last couple of CD's that I have bought; Roomful Of Blues, Dr. John, Steve Earle, Grace Griffith and Iris Dement.... Are their any Joni/George Harrison/Beatles connections? Always going a little against the grain, my favourite group was The Beach Boys, almost a sacrilegious thing to say in those days. But via the BBs I got into Jefferson Airplane, Santana, The Byrds and the whole LA music scene, and thus Joni. My mother was always the one in our house who most liked the Beatles, thus it was her who went to see them when they came to my hometown of Bangor, north Wales. Bangor is small but has a university and a teacher training college where they were holding a conference on 'Transcendental Meditation' to be attended by The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and, I think, all the Beatles except Ringo. The rumour spread around the streets but who would believe it? My mother did, and dressed up and walked to the venue and, sure enough, the next day all the press and tv were full of it. Not as full of it as my mother who kept a Dahlia given to her by the Maharishi which lived a long time in a vase on the kitchen window. All we could get out of her for a week was the sentence (almost a mantra) "A Dahlia is a Dahlia", which has since that day been an inside joke in our house. My mother loved the Beatles so much that I'm sure she'll be as upset as anyone by this sad news. I always loved this story about Joni and George Harrison. She was in the studio recording "Hissing of Summer Lawns" (from an article at the JMDL website: (http://www.jmdl.com/articles/docs/7603mg.cfm) Then she comes in to listen to the track, concentrated, sipping a little red wine from a styrofoam cup, taking a puff from a cigarette, putting her head together with Henry's to discuss a technical detail. There is a knock on the door and in walks George Harrison, who is recording in the studio next door(it's the A & M studio complex on La Brea Avenue in Hollywood). "I just wanted to say hello" he says and then a strange thing happens. Joni is suddenly shy and this shyness seems to be catching. George seems at a loss for anything else to say. They smile at each other, he listens to the track, then sort of invites her to come to the studio and check out the last cut before he exits. What happened ? Were they in awe of each other ? Nobody else in the room said anything. And because the atmosphere was so strange, I didn't even dare ask to take a photo of the two .Which I regret now, looking back. Given that variable, the time period you're probably looking at is more like '68-'72, although Joni has championed causes both environmental & otherwise for decades. Oftentimes these protests would be held in the main streets, taking the form of 'parades' so the group protesting could bring attention to themselves. Sometimes they would take place at the location being targeted; for instance, if a wooded area was going to be clear cut, the protesters might join hands and surround a group of trees to prevent equipment from getting through. Hence the term "tree huggers". As for numbers and locations, they were all over the place but the west coast was probably more common. I would think some of our west coast members could help fill in some gaps. Anyway, hope that helps...good luck with the assignment! Please let us know how you do with it. Yesterday was such a dark day for me, but George does not have to wait any longer to meet his Lord and that is good for him. Yesterday morning Mikey came to my bed and very gently woke me up. "Dad?", he said softly. One eye opens amidst the scary tangled web of bed head, "Yes Mikey". "George died!", and he patted me gently knowing of the pain he was delivering to me. It was if he was telling me of a family member or something. No last name or further explanation needed. Frogs attacked my throat and waterfalls my eyes. Kids are so unbelieveable. They are all coming to the party today so we will get to sing George and Beatle songs together. I did a benefit show last night at the Howlin' Wolf. There were several dedications to George, but nobody knew any of his songs so guess what they played John and Paul songs. Poor George, even in death he takes a back seat. Brian Stoltz was the guitar player in the house band for the evening and had a smokin set. He also accomapanied Timothea (the organizeer of the benefit for Hepatitis C Awareness-more info at www.sirentowail.org) on a version of Presence of the Lord by Clapton, which was just stellar. Hello, thanks for the hepatitis C website. My husband has it from a kidney transplant (or dialysis, we're not sure). He was upset since it is just one more illness he has to deal with, in addition to the rare disease that made him lose his kidneys, plus the transplant medication. Anyway, he has been through the ever-so-fun year-long treatment, and is going to have to do it again probably. If anyone wants details or to commiserate, email me. I attempted to do a tribute to George Harrison today...so I was supposed to play at the mall on this stage they set up outside of the Belks entrance inside, and all these people were singing karaoke style and they seemed pretty loud to me...but of course as soon as I get up with my guitar someone decides its too loud and turns it way down and as I could hardly hear myself anyway it hardly seemed worth the effort. But I started out with "Give Me Love" and then did "River", "Dreaming of You" and, "Georgia". It was a nice idea anyway. When I started having really sluggish action I tried to contact Symantec to resubscribe but could never get through, and believe me it was not easy for I was constantly freezing up. Took me 12 hours to get it taken care of. I finally gave up on them and subscribed with Mcaffee. (we had one more possibility)...or at least, said drunken guy, we should play some beatles cuz he said knew george in liverpool (okay he did have an english accent & this is santa barbara)... i told him we had already done while my guitar gently weeps but he said he didn't hear it...we played our one more danceable song just for him but he went out to have a smoke instead... i guess it wouldn't hurt to learn some more beatles songs... i wonder how he'd like it if we showed up to his workplace & demanded he do whatever he was doing the way we wanted... ******************************************** Kate Bennett www.katebennett.com sponsored by Polysonics www.polysonics.com Discover the Indies at Taylor Guitars: http://www.taylorguitars.com/artists/awp/indies/bennett.html ******************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Dec 2001 13:54:50 -0800 From: " Russell Bowden" Subject: George Harrison,,,, Victor Johnson Gang, How beautifully the sun came yesterday.
