The song "Gin" on the Amy Correia CD I've been praising reminds me a lot of "Down To You". Both are one-night-stand songs, detailing the futility & emptiness of that experience. For the flip side, listen to Joan Baez's 'Love Song To A Stranger' sometime. Here's an excerpt: Don't tell me of lover everlasting and other sad dreams I don't want to hear Just tell me of passionate strangers who rescue each other From a lifetime of care Cause if love means forever expecting nothing returned Then I hope I'll be given another whole lifetime to learn. I attended a clay workshop where a technique was taught for making a bowl by paddling clay around a mass of dryer lint in a plastic bag. I since found cotton balls work just as well and have less dog hair and sand in it. And yes, we CAN make anything interesting! As for my dryer lint, it always seems to be purplish except for Saturdays when I do towels. Then it's green. If your're ever having trouble getting the lint out of the filter, just lick the tips of your fingers, that lint peels right off! And you know, the dryer *always* makes lint! Well, aren't those just the fibers from the fabric? But the fabric doesn't ever really totally go away! Fascinating and very deep stuff. It causes me to do some navel-gazing, and....wait a minute, what is that in my navel? Damn, even MORE lint! LOL! Buffington" Subject: Joni How do you think Joni exemplifies being a folk artist...? Folk art as defined by the NEA are those things that are learned as part of the cultural life of a community whose members share a common ethnic heritage, language, religion, occupation, or geographic region. These traditions are shaped by the aesthetics and values of a shared culture and are passed from generation to generation, most often within family and community through observation, conversation, and practice. I see most of this definition as pushing the edges when it comes to family and community....but Joni has it all in there...the thread which ravels us all together And for my special friends who have talked with me by phone...and you know who you are....thanks a LOT!
