You know I am a scientist. My day in and day out tasks revolve around getting proof and I am with you on that point BUT we have to analyze what we are dealing with here. I, for one, do not want to sit idly by and have terrorists attack here or anywhere again. Too ideal? Well .... we are ALL entitled to our opinion. She was a huge fan of Gino's and showed me a picture of the two of them after a concert a few years ago. From what I understand, he's still going strong. I bought his album "Live in Montreal" (hope I have the name right) and it is fantastic! He does his radio hits, "I just wanna stop" and "Living Inside Myself." He also does the songs, "Crazy Life", "People Got To Move," and "Brother to Brother." There are fantastic instrumental solos throughout the album. It is excellent, in my opinion. If you want a full rounded taste of Gino Vanelli, I highly recommend his live album. My first 45 was 'Georgy Girl' by the Seekers. I think the first LP I ever owned was the soundtrack to 'Mary Poppins.' The first one I ever bought with my own money was probably 'Dionne Warwick's Greatest Motion Picture Hits'. I loved the theme from 'The Valley of the Dolls'. The people I expected to be great were even better than I expected - like Neil and Bruce and U2. Wyclef Jean was inspired, and Eddie Vedder was riveting. Such an amazing range of artists and such a range of choices of songs. I mean who would have expected Fred Durst and Johnny Rzeznicek(sp?) doing a Pink Floyd song? And doing it so well? And that Alicia Keyes blew me away as well. I saw her on the MTV awards and thought she stole the show. Last night proved to me that she isn't a one trick pony either. Strange, Jerry, I was also reminded of you-know-who while Alicia was singing. The thought immediately flashed through my head that she could definitely do Joni's songs justice. I presume there will be a CD of this show on the market soon. Sybil Vince Lavieri wrote: >Anyone have any reviews of the benefit? It was a true class act, no matter what anyone's politics are. I was most impressed with Neil Young, Bruce, and Paul Simon. And I was knocked out by Alicia Keyes. Though only 20 she is the real deal. Reminded me of Aretha Franklin during her Columbia years. And every time i heard "the lines are open" it reminded me of you-know-who. Everyone who sang did an excellent job, but those two touched me the most. The reason I feel this way is that I could feel the emotion coming through them more IMHO. I was also touched by the words spoken by Julia Roberts and Clint Eastwood. Julia was bordering on tears, and I could feel "Dirty Harry" coming through Clint. I'm sure it wasn't purposed but it made me feel good anyway. Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, The Dixie Chicks, Wyclef Jean, Celine Dion and others were all wonderful as well. My heart really went out to Mariah Carey during the singing of "Hero." This was her first appearance since her breakdown and as one performer to another, I could tell that she was struggling emotionally to get through the song. She had to hold on to the mike stand for support, and she chose not to hit the high notes usually in the song. I've never been a big fan of hers, but my heart now goes out to her in her struggle. I guess I would have liked to have seen the speaking stars have a little leeway to say a few words on a personal level concerning their feelings about the tragedy. I don't know if I'm quite ready for "showbusiness as usual" yet. I do applaud everyone for putting such a big undertaking together in such a short period of time, so I can't really criticize the event. Everyone's hearts were in the right place, and that's all that matters. If you could have seen my jaw drop when I did -- that was a low blow and totally uncalled for. Kakki is one of the kindest, smartest, and most articulate lister around (not to mention that for over three years, her posts are the ones I always read -- We obviously have completely different points of view on politics, but I respect everything she says and she always gets me thinking) and it saddens me that we have come to this yet again. I know in my heart that "To everything there is a season" and that there is a time for peace and a time for war. I understand and feel just as fervent as Kakki about the US taking action concerning this tragedy and I do not feel that it is something that must be done for my personal vindication. I truly feel it is the right thing to do, and I have two brothers as well as two nieces in the Air Force on standby. I am not saying that the US has never taken an innocent life, but I have seen us try time and time again to avoid doing so. I have confidence that we will try to target only those areas where we know that terrorist participants exist. What I got from Ric is his concern that America wants revenge at any cost. I also got from him a fear that America is losing it's highly regarded right to free speech by openly shunning those with pacifist views. I was saddened by the news that security is now required for the one congressperson who voted against giving the president the power to use force. She was genuinely concerned about the loss of more life. I am concerned too, but I am convinced in my heart that we have to take a stand to preserve the freedoms of all those who hold it dear. I respect the views of those who do not want war, but these terrorists live and die by the sword. To me, they are like international bullies threatening death to any Muslim nation who helps the United States. In essence, hearts are aflame with the need for these evil men to be stopped. Many hearts are also pure about this need. If there were any other way to do it, I would vote for it in a minute, but sadly, I do not see any other recourse. There are those who are now willing to fight and die for what they believe in, that being the stopping of this type of terrorism. I would personally like to see God confound my enemies and cause them to start fighting among themselves, thereby causing their own downfall. The point is, they have to fall. France is never a country to say to the U.S., "if you say so!"... they are satisfied these links are real... Russia and China are behind the U.S. Canadian intelligence has seen those links with bin laden with both the hijackers and various associates... its well known that bin laden works for the taliban... he's even been described as their defense minister... he also assassinated the northern leader Musood on behalf of the Taliban... Therefore, not just the U.S., but all these other countries that have found the linkage will not hand over these links, the fruits of the very investigation they are exploring for God's sake! and anyone who thinks they should...well, i wouldn't entrust my security to that person! Being explored now is how these links may be connected to Saddam Hussein and other ruthless terrorists in somalia and the sudan...to feed your enemies the fruits of your very investigation is absurd!
