HOW could I forget our goodwill ambassador MR BOB SCJONIGUY (if you were wondering what the SC stands for it is Super Cool) is always the first to welcome folks whether it is online or in person. Bob you are such an vital part of this wonderful jmdl group & it was SO cool to hear what a talented performer you are!!!!! And Anne! JMDL poet laureate (is that how you spell it?)..Despite the fact that I know you were not feeling well you organized the whole incredible show...played the most beautiful set & were all smiles whenever I saw you. What a pleasure it was to meet you. I am embarrassed to admit this but my suitcase is still unpacked. Meaning I haven't had a chance to listen to all the incredible CDs I came home with. I can't believe it was already one week ago that I arrived in Topsfield airport and made my way to Ashara's. Tonight's quite a contrast. It's so quiet here in my little apartment. I still feel as if I've just got here as there's still alot that isn't unpacked and the aquarium is still empty. I'm planning to go tonight to see Jennifer Daniels, from Chattanooga, play at a local coffeehouse. I keep wishing in my heart that I could come home to a house full of jonifesters with guitars and smiling faces. I am planning to start hitting the clubs and open mics again, get out more, make some things happen so maybe I can find some people to tide me over till the next fest. When I was in Atlanta, I got so, so discouraged from doing anything anywhere as there was such a complete lack of support and/or enthusiasm from anybody (except Holley, bless her heart) but I'm hoping that Athens will be a little different. Who know though, after this jonifest, I believe that anything is possible. I really think that it was just where I needed to be. Divine intervention? or maybe just an angel looking over me? In any case, I'm very grateful for everything that transpired over those several days. "The Secret 'o Life is enjoying the passage of time" J.T. However, her statement that she is giving up songwriting because of the climate upsets me. I don't think the songwriting muse gives a hoot about what is happening in business. The songwriting muse compells you to write with no concern of the market unless you are that kind of writer. I can see her not wanting to deal with touring & promotion & all that entails but I don't think that is what she is talking about since she is still producing records. Maybe she has written some things that her record company has criticized. I wonder if she is bound by a contract? Does she know people are out there doing it on their own, doing what they want, making & selling incredible music? She has always been with a record company...that reality seems to be limiting her view right now & it is a shame. Of course I do believe she is entitled to follow her muse wherever it leads her & that she has left us with so much great music already. Maybe it is just that she would rather paint right now. But the music biz goes in cycles. There are some who predict the return of the singer/songwriter again. Let's hope her musical inspiration to write songs returns. ******************************************** Kate Bennett www.katebennett.com sponsored by Polysonics www.polysonics.com Discover the Indies at Taylor Guitars: http://www.taylorguitars.com/artists/awp/indies/bennett.html ******************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Sep 2001 20:06:03 -0400 From: "Victor Johnson" Subject: Re: Subject: some real Joni news(njc) > But the music biz goes in cycles. Please let me know by Monday September 10 if you think you would be interested in attending & I will forward your email to his office for you to receive more specific information. Here is what I know so far: Jim Messina is planning to hold a songwriters' workshop at the Union Hotel in Los Alamos, California. Could this be the last time Joni retires? She "retired in 71', in 80' in 84' after the REfugee Tour, in 86'.. in 99' ... etc. etc. This reminds me of Robert Smith of the Cure.. Ever since 1989 he has been saying that this album/tour is the last and there will be no more cure, well it is 10+ years later and they are still together (supposedly). Joni is similar. But you know, it makes it interesting... to see if she will return, or if she will not. This project sounds great, and since it is 2cds that excites me even more!~!!!! I can just taste the music now. (Ahhh) I love how in almost every interwiew of recent year, she mentions Van Gogh. Obviously a strong influence, as wee know from Turbulent Indigo.. She should probably get a degree in Van Gogh.
