I'll explain. For the most part Shadows and Light was shot on video, right? I'm not a video professional but I don't think letterboxing was commonly done with video except as an effect. Especially not then. (Paz?) I don't know if the coyote film was 16mm or 35mm it probably got cropped to the TV rectangle. In this case, it's not a big deal anyway. Wisely, there are no "two shots" of Joni and the far left and the coyote at the far right. No, it was edited (by Joni's direction if my Expert memory serves) to be a Product for the home video market. There was no theatrical intent. There was no theatrical intent. Actually it was first aired as either an HBO or Showtime special. I remember watching it - several times - on the tube before I found the VHS at Tower Records lo those many moons ago and of course I just had to have it. So I agree that letterboxing is highly unlikely and unnecessary. But I WANT that dvd! I can't imagine anyone I know doing that - except maybe the older generation. Come to think of it, I'm sure my own Mum would have thought it was weird. When she was dying, there was one home care nurse who was male. By this time, Mum was beyond the point where she was really unaware of very much. I remember going to their place the night Mum died and this nurse was there and I remember thinking - and I probably told him too - that it probably would have freaked her out knowing that a male nurse was attending her, and thinking it was pretty darn funny (it's weird the stuff you laugh at when bad things are happening). Anyway, wasn't there (or isn't there) some big macho American footballer who either knits or does needlework as a hobby? I don't remember who - could have been Rosy Greer (sp?), or maybe Mean Joe Green (ha!) I can't imagine anyone walking up to one of those big guys and calling him a sissy. I can manage crochet (basic, but I need big yarn and big hooks because my eyesight is so bad), but knitting confuses the hell out of me. Now, boys and girls take both. My daughter had a lot of fun with woodworking. And another LOL - at my old condo complex they had a couple of large ponds where several healthy Koi had been peacefully residing for almost 30 years, growing bigger, stronger and more valuable $$$ every year. A new (and very evil) condo board eventually took over and learned that they had a great resale value. There were some who wanted to sell off a few to replenish the HOA reserves, while others were militant that they not be touched. One day the board newsletter reported that all the Koi (around 40) had suddenly disappeared overnight and that it had been concluded that racoons ate them. Yeah right. And most of the residents still believe that one to this day. But I smile at the heron who got his fair and square ;-) Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 May 2001 19:58:17 -0700 From: "Brenda J. That cafe' > is definitely on the list of future LA Jonifest sites... :) I'm slow to report - only because we stayed up way late and I had to be back to the grind early this morning! Marian, her sister Jennifer and her GUITAR arrived at my place around six and then we moseyed over to Les Deux to meet up with the Dulsons, Rick, Brad and Clark. Dinners at Les Deux always last at least 3 hours, even thought it seems as if no time has passed. We were given a beautiful table and the food was indescribably delicious as usual. We noticed a new snapshot put up by the main bar of a side view of Joni and Michelle Lamy looking just over the top joyful. I'm so sorry that Steve and Michelle couldn't join us back at my place afterward (it was already 11 p.m. and they had a long ride home). Marian was almost ready to drop when we arrived but once she got out the guitar she instantly got a second (or third) wind. Rick Brad and Clark were open-mouthed at the beauty of her performances of a wide spectrum of Joni, Jonatha and even some Richard Farina (Steve ;-) Jennifer is also very talented on guitar with a gorgeous voice and she and Marian did a few unbelievably beautiful duets together. Our Clark played us a few of his beautiful original songs, too, and I wish I would have had a professional set-up to record the event. Rick kept a setlist which will give you an idea of the incredible music we heard and I am waiting impatiently, er looking forward, to his report ;-D I took a few photos and will post a link to them in a few days. Thanks to Marian for being SUCH a trouper to get off an eleven hour flight and come straight out to meet the LA jmdlers. She also brought a LOAD of assorted European chocolates for us to devour - ummmmm ;-) Kakki ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2001 #234 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
