hi gang,
it's me again, the oooooolllllddddd
coffeehouse guy and this time I need help.
some may recall my rant back in January
sometime responding to someone's mention of a
book, simply called 'James Taylor' and the
pictures of Joni in it. well, I recently very
narrowly missed the end of an ebay auction
for this very book and since have really been
yearning to get my hands on a copy and so I
turn to you for help.
the front cover looks like this:
http://www.geocities.com/bandsix/jamestaylorsongbook.jpg
and the particulars I have are as follows:
Title: James Taylor
Author: Taylor, James
ISBN: 0825626382
Publisher: Amsco
Year Published: 1971
Attributes: Paperback
if anyone has or has access to a copy of
this book I would be happy to buy it/pay
copying costs for a xerox but would most
especially like to have good scans of the
Joni pics in it for the gallery.
btw, re: the gallery at photopoint: I am
trying to make something there we can all
enjoy and all input is welcome... scans,
suggestions, scans, criticisms, and, oh yes,
also scans. LoL!
if anyone can help me out with this book pls

March 5th, 2001
Dear Friends,
We regret to inform you at this time, the publication of our book project:
"Crosby, Stills, Nash and sometimes Young" is being delayed.
This is due to a change in management at Kempen Publishers. The agency is
redirecting their focus and does not want to pursue the completion of this
project.
We want to have a publisher that believes in our project and are therefore
seeking other avenues. We are not sure how long this will take, but be
assured that we will NOT abandon this project that has been in the works
for the past 10 years. We will use this extra time to our advantage. This
is an opportunity to further our research and bring the project to the
highest
level.
We are now trying to contact everyone who sent payment in advance.
Refunds will be given and no credit cards will be charged.
If you have any further questions, please contact Lucien via email at:
Luus.van.Diggelen@chello.nl
Thanks for your patience and understanding.
We will make an announcement when we have a new publisher, along with
ordering information.
Good things are worth waiting for....
Kindest regards,

Have a hunt around on the internet for information
about whether your DVD player will play other regions.
Many will, usually with a few obscure remote control

I watched about 45 minutes of this - until the Riverdance dancers
came on. Now, any show that features a duet of Elvis and Emmylou
can't be all bad, but overall I was depressed by the over-production.
I guess if you're shelling out big bucks to go to the Kennedy Center,
you expect million-dollar sets and whiz-bang lighting. I'd have
enjoyed it more if it were just the band (particularly Donal Lunney
and Sharon Shannon) sitting in a pub somewhere bashing out tunes,
and the "stars" popped in to sing a song or two.
Is it just me, or are the "specials" put on by PBS these days
becoming indistinguishable from the lowest-common-denominator crap
put on by the broadcast networks? PBS seems to be dumbing down for
the masses.

We've topped the 800 mark on list membership - the highest census
ever. It breaks down like this (not accounting for those subscribed more
than once):
Joni list - 113 members (14%)
Joni-Digest list: 513 members (64%)
OnlyJoni list - 33 members (4%)
OnlyJoni-Digest list - 145 members (18%)
Interesting to note that the "only Joni" membership has increased
dramatically - almost one fourth of all members - since the last report.

Hi Clive,
I agree that Jonio's profile here is now non-existant. What position did
BSN get to in the UK? No.50? She's been struggling here since the late
70s, and the current malaise afflicting the industry - where nobody over
30 is given much of a chance in the British charts - has buried her even
further out of sight and earshot. The likes of HMV and MVC did try to
promote BSN in-store, but I'm not sure how much influence it had.
I'm 29 now, and first head of Joni via a BBC2 Whistle Test programme at
the time of Dog Eat Dog, although it was My Secret Place in 1988 which
prompted me to actually begin my serious love-affair with her music
(Johnnie Walker would play tracks from CMIARS quite regularly).
There are a few under-40s from the UK here on the JMDL, I'm pretty sure.
Not enough though, I would agree. And that's likely to get worse, as the
upcoming teenagers are probably not going to get even the opportunties
my generation were afforded to discover Joni.
Jason.

Wally and all,
Since it's out of print, I'll be glad to lend it so a reliable person with a
double VCR set-up can make a tape or two.
I wouldn't offer if the tape was still available. I didn't know it was out
of print. I bought it years ago, and it's a great video, in my humble
opinion.
I know a lot of the people on the list have made CD trees and video trees
and other Joni-related trees. (I've never subscribed to any of those trees
because of time restraints.)
Wally or someone let me know, and I'll warily send it out for dubbing.
E-mail privately, or publicly, if others are interested. If this is an
inappropriate offer, of course, then I'll rely on someone to slam me on the
list and send me into a spiral of shame so deep that I'll be forced to sit
and watch the video again, alone, to console myself.
And congratulations, Miss Mitchell for the Juno award!

There's some others...I don't think the info resides on either site, I know Simon has a current list, maybe he will forward it onward when he reads this...
I also noticed in Joni's discography section that there's not a thorough listing of her singles, EP's, etc. That would be interesting to look at and potentially a nice resource as well.

Thats correct, what Kakki said. My recollection is that Croz said something
like, he (Rogan) got it all wrong...I have no idea about that quote as I
have never seen the book.
Best bet is to do what Kakki suggested & join the CSN list. Croz & Joni go
waaaaay back, if you are writing about Joni, he would be a great source- he
has the highest respect for her and has said something like when all the
votes are in for best songwriter of all time EVER, its gonna be Joni
Mitchell (very loose paraphrasing-don't quote me)
Kakki said,"Kate and I, as well as Paz, are all on the CSN discussion list

was just asking us whether we had also read Crosby's criticisms. We have
seen these strong reactions to Rogan from him, and repeatedly.

I am wondering if any of you on this list have the tape tree (I think its #2)
with Joni and James Taylor at the BBC. I am new to this list, so I am not
sure how to go about trying to get a copy of it. I also am new to trading, so
I dont have any rare bootlegs to trade, but I am willing to cover all costs of
making a copy and shipping. If anyone can help, pleas email me at

Well, I looked at the auction, it appears that Craig in TX, "Happy The Man" on the JMDL, decided to auction off his copy of the tribute.
I'm going to be burning a copy for Pam, who requested the CD in the first place, for $5, which is half of Craig's minimum bid of $10. Craig had responded to Pam's request initially.
Good luck to Craig with the auction. I don't know if there's a mole in any of this or not...the CD is out of print so I don't see any monkey business in what's going on...am I missing something?

So true. Just a couple of shows in Europe - even just the one (preferably in
her favourite city of London). She could come and stay at my place if
necessary.
However, there was one bright point this evening. Joni Mitchell was the
answer to a question on the TV program, University Challenge and the students
of Hull University got it right! It was one of a series of questions on
Canadian rock musicians (kd lang and Bryan Adams being the other). "Born
Roberta Joan Anderson, she is famous for her collaboration with Charles
Mingus" or something like that. I was impressed that they managed to get it
right and that's the second time she's featured on that program in the last
couple of years. Maybe someone setting the questions actually likes her!

I grieve for her that it turns out there is sadness among the great joy she
and Kilauren have shared.I sincerely hope that they are both able to get

be alienated from them now would probably be devastating for her, I'm
sure.Let's pray this works out for her.

I feel your pain, Vince. I had a fixation on "Let It Be". It hasn't been
available for sale a long time but I eventually found a bootleg vhs copy of
a laserdisc for rent at a video store while on vacation. I dubbed it and
although the sound and picture quality are imperfect, I have it. I can tell
you that in my case, re-viewing it certianly de-mystified it for me.
It was like an itch. Once you scratch it, it stops bothering you.
I'll keep an eye out for "Celebration at Big Sur" for you and I hope you'll
do the same for me. Someone has a still photo of CSN (&Y?), on stage with
Joni and John Sebastian. I hope it comes to light eventually so Ashara can
consider it for a video tree.

I didn't have ANY responses for my Joni Companion book offer, so I'll try it
again. Originally, I offered "The Joni Mitchell Companion" (by Stacy
Luftig) as a trade, but now I will mail it to you FREE if you e-mail me with
your address. I have an extra copy and just want it to go to a good home.
Also, I noticed that sonicnet has a tribute to Women's History month going
and they have several categories of cool women artists, grouped by musical
style to listen to. Also, one station has Jonatha Brooke as guest DJ. It's
worth a listen!
Take care,

Subject: musical weekend!(NJC)
Enjoyed a great musical weekend. First we went to see the Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra friday night and they were oh so good. Their program included
Dvorak "Cello Concerto" featuring guest cellist, Steven Isserlis,
Tchaikovsky "Romeo and Juliet", and a really interesting modern piece by
Rouse, "Symphony No.2". Saturday I ended up jamming with a mandolin player
at the Dr.Suess party doing a bunch of Van, Neil Young, Dead, and Bob
Marley, etc...It was somewhat refreshing as I'm still having alot of
breathing problems and have not been doing alot of singing but definately
felt able to sing Saturday.
Then Sunday I went to Borders to see Jonatha Brooke and despite having
gotten more into her cd, I still like her much more by herself though I've
never seen her live with a band so I'll have something to look forward to in
a couple of months or so. The weekend seemed so full I didn't even mind
coming back to work today though I was saddened to hear about the school
shooting in (circa) San Diego which makes me wonder even more about a lot of
things.

I've seen it come up regularly on eBay. Just checked at eBay and see that
one VHS copy was sold on Feb. 15th with 23 bids and a closing price of
$44.00. You can see it by searching "celebration big sur" in the completed

I've seen some of the NZ version - call it morbid curiosity - and if it's
anything like the US one, then yes, it is very stupid! Lots of people doing
silly things, then abusing their teammates if they don't feel up to doing it
too. The worse thing (in my mind) that they did was split the group in
half, then tell one half that they have to repack the other half's bags into
one small one, leaving a lot of stuff behind. One guy was (understandably)
furious that they'd been through his things, and surprise, surprise, was the
first one to go at the end of that episode, I guess because he wasn't a
"team player". I don't think these shows do anything for team-building but
go a long way to show how far some people will degrade themselves for a few
dollars.
