Some folks on the CSN list who are on AOL are also having the same problems because with the latest version of AOL, one cannot turn off the HTML - it's apparently a new locked-in default. Some of them are not seeing their messages on the list, but others are seeing them fine. Your original Foni Mitchell post came through for me, too. I think the solution may be to downgrade to an earlier version of AOL, or maybe get a hotmail account for the JMDL. >I would love to read the article, Kakki. She brought in Paul Simon, and world music and if my memory wern't so bad I could remember the others, but it was great exposure to great music. I remember her playing "I Am A Rock" and being really struck by it because I felt like that so many times in school since I was listening to Harry Chapin and I think I had discovered Joni by then but often felt like that song. I was never doing things people my age were supposed to be doing...lol. I just wanted to say keep doing this cause I remember how much it meant to me. There is another connection to Joni. When she picked up her lifetime achievement award from the National Songwriters Association a few years ago in LA (and performed 4 songs), O.C. Smith came on later and performed "Stand By Me". Bluffed his way through it, didn't know the words! Everybody else in the house did. Maybe they met at that time. Also, Joni did a song that I have never heard since. The only thing I remember about it was a line about Betty Grable's legs. And while I was there, I checked out his wife Diane's review of Taming The Tiger, and wasn't too impressed: http://www.geocities.com/~oldgreycat/features/joni.htm Mind you, it's easy to be critical when you know the facts, but she's made a few errors, for example: "The self-portrait on the cover shows her dressed for the cold, with severe fur hat and coat collar up as if to shield her from an ill wind. Her lips are pursed derisively--did someone just offer her shit for breakfast?" Has she never heard of Van Gogh? "On "Stay in Touch" she addresses finding the daughter she gave up for adoption, showing a Blue-ish vulnerability" Wrong - isn't this about Donald Freed? I have no problem with people reviewing albums, and certainly she's entitled to her opinion, but I'm less forgiving of people stating "facts" that are just plain wrong. In a discussion group yes, there's the chance for correction (and I've been corrected many times). But not on a website. After all that, she seems to like the album though!
