It sounds like maybe a Fats Domino influence. Can anyone confirm or deny that McCartney knew and admired or was inspired by Fats the way he so obviously "did" Little Richard in the early days? I tried to look up "Oh Darling" on the 'official' www.thebeatles.com but it seems to be totally preoccupied with "pushing units". BTW, who told the list about that phrase? I love it. Anyway, on a related page, http://www.getback.org/breflib/teens.html , I saw this sage advice for today's parents of teens: [[ 5. When your teen asks, "Like what's so great about the Beatles, huh?" don't play "A Day in the Life" again. Instead buy the Greatest Hits of 1963. Program your CD player to spew out "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Surf City," and The Singing Nun over and over. When your teen comes crawling for mercy, say, "That was life before the Beatles." ]] I also found this joke, attributed to America's David Letterman at http://www.getback.org/breflib/top10.html: Q: How do you know that the other Beatles don't like you? A: After you spent the week working on a painting for the cover, they decide to go with "The White Album" As America's poet Chuck Berry once entreated, "Roll over Beethoven, dig these rhythm and blues." Now, when was Wally's *birth*? I'd like to remember him on the day the world got him and not on the day all of us lost him. Lama ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Feb 2001 01:32:51 -0500 From: "Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: NJC Real Jukebox / audio players Hey Gerald, Before the Mac users all chime in with "My **Mac** doesn't do that!" I want to give ya my two cents. From what I've read, the reason mp3 players break up is because they need to have sole access to the hard drive. In other words, think of your computer as a $1,000 mp3 player. Don't open any windows or save anything. Dunno if more RAM would help. Lama Gerald said, I've been using Real Jukebox to record CDs onto my hard drive, and use it for playback. I like a lot of the features of Real Jukebox, but it seems to pause, or break up, a lot. (more frequently lately) Anyone know of a better program (that's free to d/l) that is better than Real Jukebox - one with similar features? My processor is 300 Mhz with 64 M RAM. Do I need more RAM for this thing to play smoothly? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Feb 2001 03:44:21 -0300 From: "Wally Kairuz" Subject: RE: mercury retrograde [astrology, longish] njc that's so good to know, fred!!! i always liked DHL better than Fed Ex! wallyK - -----Mensaje original----- De: owner-joni@jmdl.com [mailto:owner-joni@jmdl.com]En nombre de FredNow@aol.com Enviado el: Lunes, 05 de Febrero de 2001 01:57 a.m. Para: joni@smoe.org Asunto: Re: mercury retrograde [astrology, longish] njc "Wally Kairuz" >Mercury ... rules on-line services, but not >cyberspace itself, which is under Aquarius. Humor alert Hey Kate, You need to *ride* this trend. Here, have a cigar! Let's talk. Now here's *your* new direction. You get rid of those Taylor guitars, see? Then you get in touch with your primal scream, see? Go to the beach and scream at the ocean. Now, watch daytime TV shows and write a bunch of hate songs, okay? For the cover photo, well, I see a leather thong sadomasochistic thing happening. The first video? Simple: you're taking a shower in a thin silk dress, just outside the razor wire of a recreation yard at a penitentiary..... and you keep touching your face. Call me. We'll do lunch. Chow.
