Was hanging' over at the Diana Krall website, and someone brought up a movie they had seen on Showtime called 'A Girl Thing'. Apparently, a version of 'A Case of You' was used, and they did not know who was singing it. (I didn't see this movie myself, so I'm only going on what I read.) They thought it was Diana, but someone else posted on tht website's MB that the credits list it as Joni. Can anybody confirm whether or not the version on this movie was Joni? (I would tend to think it is hers, from the Both Sides Now album, as Diana Krall only performed 'A Case of You' on the TNT Joni Tribute, and nowhere else that I know of.) My attempt is to track down a list of all the shows she performed, as main artist, or guest. If anyone from the list may help, I'd be very grateful. I'm mainly looking for dates from early days to 1990. No need of data for 1998 & 2000 tours that were widely and perfectly reported in Joni Mitchell Homepage. Contributions for attenders of the shows are very welcome. I'd be interested to hear what spins on your turntables from time to time. I tend to stick to the balladeer singer / songwriter genre. Dylan+ADs- Paul Simon+ADs- RLJ+ADs- James Taylor. When Leslie and I used to play together he was more Jackson Browne and I was JT. CSNY (who influenced the way I sing / play even more than Joni)+ADs- Paul more than John and that's saying something. It made me think of how complex Joni's songs are and yet I got such a satisfaction buzz from such a simple love ballad. Nothing more nothing less love is the best. Joan Armatradingesque for some reason. Joni's the best, sans doute, but in a way she's very elitist, out of reach, in that Joe Bloggs has difficulty when it comes to hey y'all sing-a-long-a. It is a flexible, adaptive planet, which continually accesses new data and responds accordingly. Mercury represents non-emotional, highly rational objective thought, its placement in a given sign reveals your intellectual style. Therefore, all learning and assessing of information is ruled by Mercury, and when it retrogrades (something you will read about from time to time in my column) it tends to scramble information for everyone, making it a highly unreliable time for anyone to sign contracts or make important decisions. This is one of the few universal aspects which will affect every sign in my predictions. This planet governs your speech and how well you get your ideas across. The sign and house in which Mercury resides will tell you lots about your natural style of gathering and dispersing information. When Mercury is stressed out, others will challenge your opinions, or you may talk too much. However, when it's in harmony with the other planets in your chart, it's a great time to write that contract, buy a new car, or even give a speech. Mercury also rules sibling relationships, maps, letters, postal matters, travel plans, appointments, roadways, vehicles, advertising, publishing, sales, and public relations. And yes, it rules on-line services, but not cyberspace itself, which is under Aquarius. It even rules Fed Ex and other express couriers. Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo and, of course, the most adaptive element of the universe, quicksilver -- known as mercury. Mercury spends about 2-3 weeks in each sign, but when it retrogrades, which it does 3 to 4 times a year, it can stay in one sign as long as 10 weeks. Never far from the Sun, it takes about a year to circle the zodiac.'' ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2001 10:25:32 EST From: RoseMJoy@aol.com Subject: Re: mercury retrograde [astrology, longish] njc I just updated my anti-virus definitions yesterday and I went to the post office to mail all my Joni related business to listers. I was Mr. Punk Rock in my younger days (ok, I liked lots of other stuff too, used to confound my punker friends by listening to Mozart and Bulgarian folk music), but I've found my tastes both expanding and becoming more refined with every passing year. Children have very limited pallates for food (hot dogs and mac & cheese anyone?), and usually grow to like more varied foods as they age. Couldent a similar thing happen to auditory stimulation? Intellectual stimulation? Visual stimulation? Don't know, just speculating. Not that I'm outside of complaining about what passes for music these days. The whole tendancy towards stupidity in music (and pop culture as a whole) I find distasteful and alarming. When I came of age in the late '70's-early'80's, pop music was supposed to be creative and intelligent. Think of bands like Talking Heads, XTC, etc, full to the brim with ideas and experiments. All that has changed, stupidity rules the airwaves. I can think of no reason whatsoever why a band like Limp Bizkit should exist. Oh well, enough on that. What do you think? __________________________________________________ Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! With all this Jazz history we've been seeing in Ken Burns' series, my memory was prodded a little. Sometime in the mid to late eighties (?), I remember channel surfing one Sunday evening, only to catch a piece 60 Minutes was doing on Miles Davis. I didn't see the whole segment on Miles, as I flipped over midway through, but I caught a glimpse of a scene from a birthday party for Miles, with probably eight to ten people present, sitting at a long table to sing him "Happy Birthday". On one side of the table was a long blonde haired woman - I instantly thought "Cool! Is that Joni?" This was the first scene I saw of that 60 Minutes piece. Does anyone recall that segment and see enough of it to know if Joni was the blonde woman in question? That blonde's hair was straight, so maybe it would have had to have been a little closer to later eighties for her to be our Joan in Miles' 60 Minutes piece, since Joni had that *dog ate on my hair* look going mid-eighties. ;-) Hope all have a good weekend!
