I paid the statutory rate which is approx. .07 for a song less than 3 minutes but that's per CD manufactured and is not based on sales at all. Part of it goes to the publisher and the other to the Harry Fox agency so probably only about 1/2 ends up in Joni's pocket. Actually, I told Bob that for his next cover CD compilation, he might consider logging into http://harryfox.com and paying the mechanical royalty on line which would "cover" any copyright violation question and the $$$ would end up in Joni's pocket. Hoping to be on the next compilation CD myself, Bob! Thanks again for all your support. Is there gonna be a fest in SF sometime soon? _____________________________________________ Richard Isen Clearsong Records . . .because a song is like a good companion. please visit http://www.clearsong.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 19:53:27 -0600 From: "Gerald" Subject: Re: Charity / Cherokee Mags wrote: "Magdalene laundries is particularly difficult for me to listen to. It is ridden with so much pain and despair." Hey Mags! If you'd like a challenge ("difficult... to listen to"), listen to Joni play her VG-8 and sing Magdalene Laundries with The Chieftans. It's my favourite recording of the song, and I think the only song of Joni's that has made me weep. There seems to be too much back bone in most of her work to allow for weeping. (NJC) OH MY GAWD Fred! Ed has been on Louisiana Jukebox twice now and is a great player AND composer. His latest group is called Bleu Orleans and the CD was just released. He has assembled a great group of players including Clarence Johnson on Sax. The time before he was basically handed the baton by Harold Battiste (another monster that is one of our greatest educators in the city). When I see Ed I will say hi for you. It's loaded with lard and calories but surprisingly good with fresh tomatoes. When Nikki arrived, she "surprised" me with two logs of the pseudo food stuff. I use the word "surprise" lightly because I wouldn't have let her in the car unless she showed me the "pork by products." I toyed around with the idea of offering some Taylor's Ham as an appetizer, but then that would have meant less for me. So I didn't. So there.
