Maybe he's a music fan. It's not rocket science or anything. I don't give alot of credibility to these lists to begin with so whoever is hosting it is kind of a moot point with me. But it makes sense that they would pick someone who is not in the music industry as the people who will be watching are mostly just fans themselves and why not pick someone who comes across as just being your average person who listens to music. I got a nice tape yesterday -- only five songs, but they are sung by our own lister Gary Zack who had the great sense to cover an early Joni rarity, Winter Lady. Gary is a damn fine singer with a confident, honest and masculine voice and the arrangement is solid. I just popped the tape in blind and was laughing to hear him sing Nyro's The Cat Song, (another unusual choice) as well as a great song I do not know called "Sanctuary." And then this song started with some unusual Joni-esque chord transitions and I recognized it. This cover of Winter Lady, especially given its rarity, would make a fine addition to the list of Joni covers. It's got some nice twinkling keyboards in the background to suggest snow. Joni once said she wrote this song for a man to sing to a woman, and Mr. Zack is the first I have ever heard sing it and he does a great job. Joni seems to have written the song for a man to sing to her, a blonde whose hair is like falling snow. - - Clark NP: Gary Zack, Winter Lady ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Jan 2001 12:15:48 -0800 From: Randy Remote Subject: Re: Rhodes on a Grecian Urn Wasn't the original LOTC version done on a Rhodes?
