Bet you had a wicked time! Was this the big 40? Can't remember if you are older or younger or the same! I had a very strange last night and you were the rescuing hero in it! I had been out with the dogs and when I turned the corner into my road, I saw a SOLD sign on our house. I rushed to the house and there was this horrid man in it. i told him this was my hbouse and he said tought, he's sold it. I said you must have sold the wrong house, this was mine. He said it was too late and 'go away', tho actually he was reuder than that. So I got my mobile out and said' you just wait, I am calling Wally in Argentina...HE will sort you out!!!!' I don't know what happened then as the dream took a turn for the worse and involved my John behaving totally out of charcater. (I have half a mind to wake him up and tell him off!) Then I was in a hospital and being 'put down' as the Dr (someone from the list!) said I was beyond repair. Then a nurse, Kakki, said she had got it wrong(the dr) and was busy trying to find my notes to show her that I was someone else. No one could find my notes but I wasn't put down and was left living in my car with all the dogs and puppies. I turned on the car radio and it was radio 4 and I heard the pips(of the time) and the lady annoucer said, in Argentina today, Wally K had a birthday party which had caused some problem with the foundations of some big building. I guess Judy Collins cover of Both Sides Now would have been my earliest introduction to Joni's work, and 1 of my earliest records was 'Blue', which was quickly followed by 'Ladies of the Canyon'. I bought subsequent records pretty much as soon as they were available until 'Hissing of Summer Lawns', which I found disappointing after the amazing 'Court and Spark'. Years passed. What with working in the Middle East for 4 years and living in abject poverty for several more years following a financially disastrous divorce, I lost touch with Joni's music. I still played the records that I had but never had the money or the inclination to get any of her newer stuff. Time has a wonderful way of healing things, and I now find myself happily remarried and living in Delaware, USA. Living in the States has given me the opportunity of surfing the Web easily and cheaply, and I soon joined Internet discussion lists for various interests, one of which was the Roy Harper list. A friend on that list pointed me towards the Richard Thompson list, and someone on that list pointed me to the Joni list just before Christmas (Hi Debra). And that, as they say, is that. My first and only Joni CD is 'Blue' which I bought a couple of months ago. Coincidentally, soon after getting it, I was pleased to catch the recent Joni tribute program (alas my video recorder let me down). I'm hoping to get a few more Joni CD's as funds allow in 2001. Yippee! I made it over the firewall! :~) Secondly, I was reading the liner notes to an R&B CD I was listening to, and thought I'd share this bit of trivia, seeing that Joni sang this song on Shadows & Light... "Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers personified doo-wop, perhaps the most delightful genre of the hot new rock 'n' roll sound. Lymon was just 13 when the group cut "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" in 1955 after being discovered on a Harlem street corner by Richard Barrett of The Valentines, a doo-wop group. Barrett fixed them up with his own label boss, George Goldner of Gee. The song was originally a love poem written to Teenager Sherman Garnes' neighbor titled "Why Do Birds Sing So Gay". Goldner revised it, and Lymon sang lead because vocalist Herman Santiago was ill that day. Released right after Christmas, the record burned up the charts in 1956. Lymon's rise & fall was meteoric & tragic; in 1968, 11 years after his final top-40 hit, he died of a drug overdose in a friend's Harlem apartment." They were quite well known in international folk circles. Not sure what happened to her, but Joso became an artist (visual) and has owned one of Toronto's best seafood restaurants for the past 2 1/2 decades- Joso's- @ Avenue Rd and Davenport. A long time ago here on the list, Ken Corral (an L.A. jmdler) told us a bit about this. Ken was acquainted with Ronee's brother through another friend and got the scoop from him. Ronee and Joni had been good pals in the 70s but she apparently was not at all amused when Joni came out with the song and went on the outs with Joni for a long time afterward. Ken, are you still out there? Every time I hear the song now I think of Ronee in the movie "Nashville." ;-) > And the woman with the "mouth like your's" who gave the > alarming advice about being prepared to bleed was a reference to Malka - a > poet and companion of Dylan's. Just thought I'd mention it. This is interesting - does it say who "Case of You" is about? Geez, this is scary! Well, I hope I fulfilled a good purpose - perhaps distracting that doctor long enough for your escape! Where is Dr. Sigmondegreen when we need her?! My uneducated analysis is that this dreams reveals Wally K as your loyal and steadfast friend through thick and thin and that you can always rely on his support (even though his birthday parties shake his apartment building right off its foundations - wish I could be there ;-).
