I was surprised too, about the divisional pairing, although pleasantly, since playing on carpet, in a dome, like New Orlean's Superdome, is much more to the Rams' liking with all the speed they have at the skill positions. Like I wouldn't want to drive a Ferrari in the mud or ice either, would you? :-) I think the pairing was strictly a "numbers thing". NO is the 3 seed, so with the 1 and 2 seeds getting the first round byes, NO gets paired with the last placed seed, the Rams. Usually the best position for the higher seed - except for this year, that is. ;-) Do you have tickets for Saturday's game too, Michael? Good luck! In a brief interview with actor Tim Daly (he used to be in the TV show "Wings"), at the end the question is: Us: We hear you're quite the guitar player. TD: I get very little chance to play anymore, but my son has started to. It's *so* adorable. My wife and I were in bed one night, and he came in and said, "Mom, Dad! Have you ever heard of Joni Mitchell? She is so dope!" We're like, "Yes, honey. We've definitely heard of her." Okay, so is "dope" a good thing? I assume so! On another note, very few of my friends listen to Joni and I hold back from expounding on her for fear of boring those who are not interested. I have one friend, though, who said she'd recently had an opportunity on a long drive alone (very rare for us moms of small kids) to listen to HOSL. She raved on and on about what an amazing CD it is and how much of a genius Joni is. Who am I to argue? She said she'd have to figure out what Joni to get next. Being the fine and upstanding list member that I am, I thought long and hard and decided on "Hejira," which I gave her for an unexpected Christmas present. I told her no self-respecting Joni list member would let a comment of what next Joni to get go by without immediate action. (Unfortunatey, she wouldn't accept it without feeling the need to rush out and get me something, which was not what I'd intended.) So far, she said she loves it, but we haven't had a chance to talk since the holiday madness. I have gotten the new tape trees and am just so thrilled. Thank you to all who worked so hard to make it so great! Ashara, you are a queen!! The first tape of Joni's pre-exhibition interview is very difficult for me to understand (you know, I'm a court reporter; I need everyone to speak up!) Is this normal? Well, because of this problem with comprehension, I sort of wondered at my uncharacteristic blase attitude toward most of the interview. Then when it came time for the various people to make introductions at the opening of the exhibit, I almost fast-forwarded. But I held on. One of the people who spoke (I believe she represented a sponsor of the exhibit) told a story of being on a plane back to Saskatchewan and was seated next to a person who had been a longtime fan who was coming with a group to see the exhibit. As if that wasn't enough, she said she learned that the group was all HIV-positive. She immediately felt uneasy and apologized at the man's statement, and he smiled and said "Joni brings us all together" or something like that. I burst into tears. It is just amazing to know the ways in which Joni has affected people. You could see Joni was moved by this story and made a comment to the woman as she left the mike. In watching that segment at the Mendel, I wondered about Myrtle. Everytime the camera was on Joni, Bill and Myrtle, Myrtle seemed to have a kind of vacant expression her face. Does she have Alzheimers? I hadn't heard anything about it here. Just wondered. I'm in the midst of watching the second tape, the "Much Music" segment. Wonderful!! Joni just finished "Hejira" when I had to stop the tape, and I thought, yes, I got my friend the right next CD. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday. My husband and I are trying to think of new ways to use up all the leftover food, ham especially (I didn't have all the guests I had expected and have waaaayyyy too much.) Well, let's see. Are we on the fourth dessert portion of the afternoon, or would it be the second appetizer portion. Sigh ... Thank you all for being there to listen to me. Heeheehee. I was wondering if I'd get that comment past you Kakki. ;-) Honey, you must not talk basketball with Les - not nearly as kind towards the Lakers as I am. ;-) Please don't take offense, for me anyway, it's more Phil Jackson's arrogance than it is the Lakers themselves. In fact, I loved the story of Shaq renting a moving van and spending 1/2 million dollars filling it with Play Stations and such, and then going down the streets of Watts handing out Christmas presents to the kids. Thought that was way cool! >The Laker boys are all we have in L.A. We used to have a football team a long time ago - a couple in fact. But they both abandoned us and now the powers that be (probably Jack Nicholson himself) won't let any more come back here! So now we're right back to where we started - all you have to do is maintain the same loyalty I have since 1969 and root for your former home team - The Rams. ;-) From an LA entertainment industry perspective you could think of them as just being on tour! ;-D Hope you had a great Christmas, Kakki!
