Despite all the election nonsense, you have PLENTY to be thankful for- it could be worse, living in Zimbabwe, the Middle East...... Re: Grey hair. I'm half of 90- old!! Some grey strands on top. In the summer they are hidden as my hair lightens somewhat by the sunlight. Winter- another story. I keep it shorter so it doesn't show so much! When my first grey chest hairs appeared a few years ago, I was vain enough to pluck the first ones. I soon stopped that as it is a losing battle! And yes, pubic hairs turn grey too- ughhhh! My Father passed away a few years ago @85- though he had a reasonably good head of hair- it never changed throughout my lifetime, high forehead, but not balding- he was ALWAYS grey. Since I was a young boy I only saw him as being old. My Mother is 77, great hair, must be because she is British and has only ever used a Mason Pearson brush- and the grey is just starting to show. We should be so lucky! Re: Street names Green Rocky Road- Fred Neil or Tim Hardin Boulevard of Broken Dreams- sung by Diana Krall Street Music- Dr. Didg News From Up the Street- Dan Hicks Spring Street- Dar Williams On the Road to Find Out- Cat Stevens 18th Avenue- Cat Stevens On the Sunny Side of the Street Rue de Pierre- Bireli Lagrene There are SO many!!! Reading: Presently reading Stones From a River by Ursula Hegi- I highly recommend it. She is beautifully descriptive in how she weaves the story through her personalities- truly painting with words. Frank Lloyd Wright- An Autobiography. A Little Original Sin- The Life and Works of Jane Bowles (wife of recently deceased Paul Bowles) And I frequently look @ The Complete Poems and Lyrics of Joni Mitchell! Shadows of the Sun- Harry Crosby. A tortured soul, poet with a death wish. He was the nephew of JP Morgan. These are his diaries from the 1920's- decadent living in America and Paris. Note to Catherine McKay- whatever you do, please don'g vote for Doris Day!! I read Jackie Collins, Ivana Trump, Monica Lewinsky's story, Naomi Campbell, I have the Demis Roussos diet book, Joan Collins (her make up secrets as well), Brit Ekland's make up secrets, the Derryn Hinch diet book (An Aussie celeb), an books on Alien or Kennedy conspiracy's, crappy biography's and autobiographies. I collect the following serial books The A-Team, Knight Rider, Baywatch, Neighbours, Happy Days, Miami Vice, Pugwall, Dynasty, Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Dana Girls, Three Investigators etc. I read alot of Sci/Fi, Arthurian, Historical Romance and Fantasy. I occasionally torture myself with literature and classics. I even read self help books just to see how twisted I truly am. For a true crap fest I read Mills and Boons and Silhouettes. Most enjoyable except when busted. I highly recommend any books penned by Fabio and featuring Fabio on the cover! Vanessa. P.S. When Celine Dion starts penning murder/mystery romance novels or narrating classics I shall truly be in Crap Heaven! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Nov 2000 00:12:50 -0500 From: "Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: JMDL Thanksgiving Wish, USA content, NJC Here in America, we celebrate the generosity of the first Americans, whom we now variously call "Native Americans", the "idigenous people", and "Indians". Had it not been for their generosity, many of the white intruders, er, I mean settlers from Europe, would have starved during that first winter. Every year on the third Thursday in November (autumn up here in the Northern Hemisphere) we remember their fellowship and give thanks for our own blessings. This year I want to give thanks to the musicians of the world for the restful escape from reality they have given me through the years. (And many more, God willing!) I especially want to thank Terry Matlen, who was the first person I ever saw play in open tunings...... That was a jaw dropping moment at JulZie's house that I'll never forget. I just went into shock or something and I remember moving in next to her (a virtual stranger, remember), sitting next to her, and extending my hand; reaching toward the top of the guitar as she played; I'm sure she's thought I was daft but; she was singing Joni's words, singing her melody and playing the _exact_ chords; I mean the _exact_ chords and, like an expectant father, I just felt _compelled_ to feel the belly of that guitar; actually touch it since I was so close to it; that guitar top buzzing; B U Z Z ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ; Had to be connected to it; BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ; it was ghostly yet all the lights were on; I've never really come down from that buzz in '98. I catch my daily fix here- The Cowboy Junkies have a pin that reads " M u s i c i s t h e d r u g " Thanks for Joni's art. Thanks for Kenny's life. Thanks for Anne's recovery. Much love to all, James A. (Why am I channelling Tom Wolfe's "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" tonight?) Joni talks about writing in the second tape of the new JMDL video. Parts of the Much Music video I've heard before (from a Simon-powered tape tree? I apologize for not researching it) but some of the Much Music segment was new to me and really, really cool. What a great Thanksgiving gift- thanks Ms. Stansfield and Simon. Catherine Turley said, [[we all know she made the cross country car trip and that is the ultimate source of the album's concept, yet she borrows the title from Mohammed's experience, takes some imagery from Camus, melds it with her own experiences and poetics and sensibility and makes it something indelibly her own. ]] All the best, Jim L'Hommedieu (Lama) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Nov 2000 01:12:49 +0000 From: Nancy Subject: Re: Songs with Street Names Found while looking through my son's BMG catalog: South Hampton Avenue (Blessed Union of Souls) Streets of Philadelphia (Springsteen) Dreaming St. (M People) Street of Dreams (Best of Rainbow; Ritchie Blackmore) - --Nancy/IA ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2000 23:43:56 -0800 (PST) From: Penny Subject: Re: Delay in e-mails - njc >Is anyone else experiencing this?
