I own several Richard Harris albums--including the one with MacArthur Park. 2. I have the sheet music to MacArthur Park. 3. I actually tried to learn to play MacArthur Park on the Piano. 4. I think Jimmy Webb himself does a killer version of MacArthur Park. 5. It is hard to believe, but I never did purchase Donna Summer's version of MacArthur Park. My loss. 6. I still find myself playing portions of MacArthur Park on the piano. 7. Am I losing my mind? If this is Martha Stewart i'm almost certain that this is martha graham, the great modern dancer. would have been a common subject of intelligent, hip chat in the '70s, the time of the song. besides, though i don't know if joni has seen much modern dance or is aware of martha's career, i've always thought of martha graham, georgia o'keeffe and joni mitchell as triplets in 20th century art. willful, arrogant women who forcefully defined their own paths in their chosen fields and became revered, iconic even. not to mention the matching high cheek bones. it's kind of spooky, actually. patrick, heading off to topsfield in 44 hours or so. yipskaiyaaiiii!!!! np - associated digital sound research - is anybody here from america? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 16:45 +1000 From: john low Subject: RE: Your Record Thread Poll NJC Gerald wrote: "Hey John, of course I remember The Delltones. Their first release was in the 50's and they're still going today. Which record was it ? "Get A Little Dirt On Your Hands", perhaps ?? Wasn't that their biggest hit ? Here's a music trivia question for you and any other 'music sluts': Can you link The Delltones with the British super-group Cream ? (hint... think "Disraeli Gears" or "Wheels Of Fire")" Hi Gerald, I’ve racked my brain on this one and the only thing I can think of is that perhaps Martin Sharp, who designed the Cream album cover, also designed one for the Delltones. I know they were in England in the early 1970s and one of their albums is called “London Sessions”. Anyway, I’d love to hear the correct answer. Oh, and the Delltones single I own (yes, I still have it after all these years) is “Little Miss Heartbreak” backed with ‘Take My Heart”, released in November 1960. John. PS. I think the Delltones also recorded a song titled "Joanie"! __________________________________________________________________ Get your free Australian email account at http://www.start.com.au ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 01:55:54 EDT From: JRMCo1@aol.com Subject: 8 dinner guests - synchro content (NJC) This is a little strange. I wondered why I had wanted Anne Bradstreet at my dinner table so fervently. After all she's a rather obscure Puritan poet from the 17th century, whose work I hadn't read in many moons ;-). But I recall being irrevocably touched by the sensuous nature of her work, just as Joni's poetry touchs me sometimes. I'd always fantasized about meeting Bradstreet, weird as that sounds. Anyway, I looked up the only poem of Bradstreets I could recall by title today: "A Letter to My Husband, Absent Upon Public Employment." I love this poem. Read it below, if you like. The strange part is when I read Anne Bradstreet's bio. It reads: <> Then, as I was perusing my Boston area tourbook in preparation for Ashara's Jonifest, I looked at a map of the area, only to find that Topsfield, MA where Ashara lives is right on the Ipswich river, not 5 miles from Ipswich proper...where Anne Bradstreet lived 300 years ago! What the...? I don't know whether to freak or go sailing. Maybe this all stems from watching "Magnolia" a few nights ago on video. Still. Bizarre. - -Julius A Letter to My Husband... MY head, my heart, mine eyes, my life, nay more, My joy, my magazine, of earthly store, If two be one, as surely thou and I, How stayest thou there, whilst I at Ipswich lie? So many steps, head from the heart to sever, If but a neck, soon should we be together. I, like the Earth this season, mourn in black, My Sun is gone so far in's zodiac, Whom whilst I 'joyed, nor storms, nor frost I felt, His warmth such fridged colds did cause to melt. My chilled limbs now numbed lie forlorn; Return; return, sweet Sol, from Capricorn; In this dead time, alas, what can I more Than view those fruits which through thy heart I bore? Which sweet contentment yield me for a space, True living pictures of their father's face. O strange effect! now thou art southward gone, I weary grow the tedious day so long; But when thou northward to me shalt return, I wish my Sun may never set, but burn Within the Cancer of my glowing breast, The welcome house of him my dearest guest. Where ever, ever stay, and go not thence, Till nature's sad decree shall call thee hence; Flesh of thy flesh, bone of thy bone, I here, thou there, yet both but one.
