The brief version:- IT WAS FABULOUS and any other superlative you may care to add !!! Longer version:- Her voice was strong clear and dripping with emotion. The orchestra gave a great backdrop and I was mesmerised by Herbie Hancock. I am now pleading for a GB concert. Joni was awesome even allowing for my bias :-) She sang with very few mistakes indeed, her voice cracked slightly once perhaps twice. How great it is to hear her voice live again, the last time was in 1983 in London. We are soooo lucky to have her. She outstripped my (high) expectations by a country mile. My only question now is where does she go from here? Wherever it is I will be there. I now intend to go to each of her future concert tours from here on in. This woman is a living breathing treasure. As you might have gathered from this I liked the concert :-) As an icing on the cake I went to a comedy show at the New York comedy club later in the week with about 60 others at the end of 2 hours and 6 comedians a special guest was announced. It was *Gerry Sienfeld* (who was "bored" and wanted to keep in practice) and he did an amazing 40 minute set. I was dumbstruck at my luck as you can imagine ! However Joni was the highlight of that week and I suspect for many many weeks to come ;-) Hi once again to all those at Judy's in Chelsea who saw before the concert Cheers for now, (back to lurking mode) Paul Headon in Wales ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Jun 2000 20:27:51 -0500 From: Michael Paz Subject: Some things best... Ric- I feel your pain. But why stress mon frere? Sometimes it's best to dig the music for how it sounds and not what it sez. I relate to certain parts of certain songs (especially a few Joni songs that I can think of) and don't get the rest of it, but if it sounds good... ahhhh! I know I have posted on this in the past, but I LOVED Led Zep for sooo long and I could never under stand a fuckin' word that guy (Plant) sang. Ok maybe that's a little bit of a white lie, but you know what I mean. He has that girlish whine (his own discription flamethrowers) and slurs his words, but damn it sounds and feels good. {Does anybody remember laughter??) Then there is Dave Matthews who has been accused in the media of being a bad lyricist (but I love him alot!), who when asked by some interviewer "why he thinks his songs are so popular?", his response, "cause they are all about drinking and fucking". Now who can argue with that? Michael (reporting from the twilight zone) P.S. Sorry folks I am a little loopy today after staying out all night with a few of the Smithereens (what a great LIVE band). After working with them at SpringFest in Pensacola (they had hired me to be their road manager/guitar tech for the fest) they asked me to do some more jobs with them in the future, esp. the one at the world renowned Howlin' Wolf last night. I was excited to accept and had a wonderful time doing it even though with my reg job it was over s 22.5 hour day. The band sounded great and it was great to see Jimmy, Pat, Mike, and Dennis again. Jimmy's parents were down with him and Kevin (who I hired to work the gig with me) and I took Jimmy, his dad, Mike, a female fan of the band from Tennessee (appanently there are music freaks everywhere), and myself and went to the French Quarter and sang along with jukeboxes till 5:30 am when I had to bail and drive Pat to the airport for a 7am flight (thank gawd or I would STILL be singing songs from the attractions, beatles, stones, kinks, etc. I am SO blessed to be able to work in this industry and hang out and enjoy music so much. The only thing that would make it better is if I was a touring musician full time. Anybody want to do a JoniTributeMilliniumTour???
