I'm sure there is something that I don't have that I should. I've been following Joni since the beginning(67) and recently added two promotional items that Reprise used to promote BSN. I have an extra 12 x 12 self-portrait of Joni on heavy compressed paper that is perfect for framing and a 3' x 2' poster that promoted the recent TNT tribute to Joni. If anyone is interested, let me know. On another note, I really enjoy coming home from work, putting Joni on and then reading JMDL. It's a great way to unwind and leave reality behind. Favorite Careers? Miles Davis, Frank Lloyd Wright, Andres Segovia, Pablo Casals,Patsy Cline and Joni. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 23:18:44 +0100 From: catman Subject: Re: My Romance-Carly contentNJC List Archives: http://www.smoe.org/lists/joni - -------------------------------- Unless she re recorded it for the ad, which seems unlikely, James is not credited on this album(My Romance) at all. her son is though. I remember being in awe of the rhythm section. If you have a DMB record, (and if you don't, you need them), listen to the drums and the bass on the thing - it's incredible. He borrows a riff from Richard Rodger's "March of the Siamese Children" on a tune on "Below These Crowded Streets", the musicianship on his albums is first rate - real horns, real percussion, how refreshing! It's never anything less than pure bliss to these ears of mine. > And I'm thrilled that she finally seems to be getting her long-overdue accolades and respect from the world at large. Yes, it is...I just wish two things were different. 1) It was with one of her own original albums such as NRH or TI (okay, she got Grammies for the latter but still...) and 2) Us poor souls in the UK were not so distanced from all these events such as the Tribute and so on. Oh, and 3) I also wish the post-Mingus work had been more prominent in the Tribute...but these are all just personal little gripes...well, not gripes...........aaaaaaaaaanyway! Thanks for finally clearing that up. I really love "I Can Dream About You"... its one of those irresistible songs that I never tire of. I just wish his album from 1984 (can't think of the name) would come out on cd. It had "We Are the Young", a minor dance hit, and "Second Nature", another irrestistible minor hit. Powerful stuff indeed. In fact, I'll never forget an amazing incident that occurred one evening when I popped that song into my truck stereo while driving home from work. I hadn't had that tape out of it's box in many moons prior to that particular playing, and just as the "mystery" of Paprika Plains was unfolding a massive flock of crows (I'm talking hundreds) appeared on the horizon, passed overhead, and then floated off toward the Hudson River. Com List Archives: http://www.smoe.org/lists/joni - -------------------------------- oh geez catman... you are too kind. I have, for some reason, aged "well"....I suppose...at least from the neck up. I am *just*, at age 51, beginning to get a few, and very few at that, strands of grey in my otherwise medium brown/auburn hair: that's genes, right? And a few wrinkles are starting to appear: crowsfeet I think they're called. Genetic also, yes? The rest of the body has changed radically in the past 3 years since I've been on protease inhibitor therapy for hiv/aids. It's causing weird lipid metabolism and fat deposits and muscle wasting. This latter phenomenon is really hard to handle, as I used to really look 10+ years younger than my age...and now, naked, that is definitely no longer true. So I struggle with this weird body image and gratitude for being alive and surviving. It's a hard balance. I was 20 in the summer of '69. Maybe it was the brown acid that slowed down the aging process. It certainly helped me spiritually grow and regard time differently. Too much information? I'm flattered you actually clicked on my photo. Are you going to be at the Concord concert? It is supposed to get cooler into the low 50's Saturday... and rain by Sunday morning they are saying. I hope the cold doesn't affect dear Joni's voice. I know I will be sending her waves of love and warmth from where I sit.
