I ask 5.50 USD plus postage (to Canada it is 2.74) . Forgive me if this is not the place to do this. I just thought since I already have the capability I'd be happy to help if I can. Be happy to provide the URL to anyone interested. I emailed the owner requesting some directional information and here is his reply: >Hi there, sorry about the delay in responding... Glad you enjoyed the website, thanks for the comments. Anyway, yes Diva's is about 5 or 6 blocks from the Quality Hotel, so there should be no problem getting there, but cabs are easy to get as well (there's 3 cab companies, and great, quick service downtown) The Mendal is a bit further, maybe 10 blocks or so. Saskatoon is great in the summers, there's loads of clubs with live bands, the Jazz festival may be on then, you can catch the tail end of pride week, and if you have time definitely take in a play at Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan (which is always great). Plus there's the Mewasin Valley Trail (basically a park running all along the riverbank through the center of the city, and there's great spots for biking, tanning, walking, or just poking around downtown. I think the high school where Joni Mitchell went has some sort of display dedicated to her, so you may want to check that out, I can find out a bit about that if you like. Cheers, Brian< I emailed Brian back asking for information about the high school display. Will let ya'll know. I am very touched by how warm and supportive JMDL people have been in response to my initial posting about my forthcoming Joni Mitchell book. One of the great things about doing this book has been discovering this universe of wonderfully knowledgeable and passionate people who are committed to the Joni cause. ( And my apologies to the people I’ve already responded to privately, for repeating myself here). So please, be assured that you not only have a special place in my heart but also in the Acknowledgements section of the book! I’ll be sure to keep you informed as the work progresses. There’s no firm release-date yet but will probably be September next year. I’m grateful also to the people who have kindly recommended Stacey Luftig’s book, Four Decades of Commentary. I had seen this listed on amazon.com and ordered it but amazon responded saying they couldn’t locate it and there would be a long delay. The book is not yet available in Britain and if anyone else, particularly in the UK, is having trouble getting a copy of Stacey’s book, I have ordered it through Helter Skelter Music Bookshop in London (they also take international orders). They are very helpful and told me they'll try to get any music book that is currently in print (they also have lots of second-hand and out-of-print books in the shop); it’s a real treasure trove of a place. I found that I could not play the video when I contacted the web site through Netscape, but if I used Internet Explorer the connection was successful. It is worth seeing for the clips alone. Pat-I have been here three years, almost, and only just found out Joni Mitchell is a 56 year old FOLK singer. WOW! Someone should tell Joni cos I am sure she doesn't know she is a folk singer either. Funny, I wondered why people kept mentioning her name here and I just knew I had heard the name somewhere before. Guess what? I looked at my cd collection and low and behold, there are over 20 cd's with her name on them. I in fact started the irrelevant bit of this thread by mentioning Lord of the Rings and posting links about it. Somewhere along the line Star Wars (and Titanic!) got brought into the thread. So I guess I'd better take overall responsibility and stop posting now (forever, I assume, if I interpret your message above correctly). Oh damn; hang on, it was Garret - he started the LOTR/LOTF thing! His fault. Ner. I'm telling! Miss!! He did it! (points towards Dublin) It's him! Garret - you've got to stop posting! So, Greg, that's at least three of us (incl. Colin) you'd better chastise for not posting Joni-relevant content. As it was, the thread was firmly marked "NJC" - No Joni Content. In fact, it was marked "definitely NJC", which is rather clear as day, I'd say. OK, since I assume you're new, Greg, welcome to the Joni Mitchell discussion list. It's a list for discussing Joni, her music, _as well_as_all_sorts_of_other_stuff_ (as long as such messages are marked "NJC" so people can filter directly relevant vs. possibly irrelevant content.) If you want to miss out on all the irrelevant stuff (that is, the funny, sad, heartwarming, irrelevant, intelligent, red-rag-to-a-bull, and just plain interesting stuff) then subscribe to the only Joni list which automagically filters out the stuff marked NJC (barring the odd software or human failure.) And for Star Trek, at the end of the Temple University show from TT 7, she launches into a whole monologue about a particular episode, so she was as into Star Trek as the next guy - well, that's not true if the next guy is one of those types that go to the conventions like in that great SNL skit. So Joni relates to it all anyway! :~) Bob NP: Joni, "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" from Bread & Roses ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 21:56:02 -0500 From: pat holden Subject: please light a candle for Anne NJC I just had this great idea....Im fairly new to the list but it hasnt taken me long to see that Anne Sandstrom is a well loved, strong standing member of our Joni community. I just received almost exactly the same message from this "nice" person, who obviously needs a short sharp lesson not only in netiquette, but also the use of NJC (which was used on all the posts) and also about Joni, since the term "folk-singer" is almost insulting (it is to me anyway)! Maybe they signed up without reading the small print, ie. the use of NJC for those who don't want to discuss anything non-Joni. And by the way, the day that someone tells me to "stop posting" is the day I sign off forever! I just wish I could see this guy face-to-face, and really tell him off! You're right, and in fact "A Night To Remember" had two senior officers from Titanic as consultants on the movie. It just seemed a little "too" close in places. But it was probably just because the sources for the two movies were the same - as they would be for a true story, I guess! But I really was amazed at the effects for a 1954 movie. And I also didn't realise there was another ship only 10 miles away (that saw Titanic's lights and rockets), that the crew from Titanic tried to signal (to no avail) since their radio-operator was asleep! And why didn't James Cameron cover this in his movie?
