I feel for you and the others over there, Jamie. It doesn't seem right that she wouldn't at least do a reprise with the London orchestra. In my wishful thinking sort of way, maybe we can dream that she is just doing the trial run here in the States to gear up for the "Grand Show" in London. Or maybe she might drop in as a guest artist on a few of those Euro dates Erskine is playing. Most of the reviews and articles on the new album coming from the U.K. are the best I've seen. She would have a hugely receptive audience there. I'm hoping for you all. Is it worth it to schlep to a Ticketmaster outlet instead of phoning or computing? >> I wish I knew the answer to this one too Deb. As for ordering them thru the internet, it seems that for Joni's last concert (and maybe any concerts) tickets are sold one hour later than by phone or going to an outlet. For the Atlanta concert, I ordered via telephone. I found out a few days before tickets were going on sale that the BackStreet Boys tickets were going on sale for their Florida concert on the same day as the Joni tickets for Atlanta. Ticketmasters told me I'd have a much better chance calling the Atlanta number...............so make sure there's no *mega* pop band tickets going on sale the same day. What really jarred my slats, was when calling Atlanta Ticketmasters I got thru about 5 minutes prior to the tickets going on sale. I stalled the girl on the phone asking her all sorts of stupid questions until it was time. I ordered my 5 JM tickets exactly at 10:00 a.m. and they were still in the bleachers. Go Figure! At least Wally arranged for stage passes, so my seat assignment in the bleachers didn't matter anyway ;-) Jimmy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2000 07:54:13 -0800 (PST) From: Brian Gross Subject: re: Tour dates - --- Deb Messling wrote: > Where is the E-Center in Philadelphia? I could (but I wont) spend an entire morning speculating on what goes on with respect to Tickets to events.I could begin with the $5-$10-$15 "service charge" per ticket. Since the schmuck actually taking the order is probably paid minimum wage to screw up your credit card number and take your address down wrong cant you imagine the nine or so people all sharing in the hand carrying of your precious duckets down to the Brinks truck to be fed-exed to Switzerland for safety thereby justifying the cost of the "service charge". But have you ever wondered why since tickets go on sale at some predetermined time at a predetermined price how immediately all the best seats are possessed by ticket brokers selling them for $1500. The answer is that like everything else in the entertainment world the process happens to be corrupted. Thats the only way.If the promoters and acts actually sold the tickets for what the scalping wholsalers sell them for the public would go nuts so all they do is take them off the market and "resell" them through the organized scalping system. There was a band not long ago that refused to sell their tickets through Ticket-"master" and or BASS (Bay Area Seating Service) and all hell broke loose in the political establishment. The Ticketbrokers threw gobs of money into campaign coffers and there could only be one reason for that. TONS of money involved. So getting the front row seats to any show is probably next to impossible by any conventional means. You MUST go through the black market known as "ticket "master". I will foerever fondly remmebr the old days of going to the City Lights bookstore two days before the show, buying tickets for 6 or 7 dollars (without service charge), and being able to walk into the Fillmore West and make my way up to the stage (without getting stabbed) and standing five feet from Peter Townshend as he destroyed his instruments. I have the grainy photographs I took blown up to 16x20 and they hang on my studio wall today and people say every time they see them "How did you get so close?". I say "It was the time long ago and far away before Ticketmaster was invented". ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2000 11:19:09 EST From: TerryM2442@aol.com Subject: Re: Tour Dates- Detroit Anyone? Let's just say that the comment from 4 reviewers was "mixed" - from very appreciative to dismissive - but that nobody really clicked to the fact that Joni herself had both specifically chosen the songs and had (I'm sure) a significant creative input when it came to the treatment/arrangements/production. Also the individual tracks were criticised by a reviewer for "sounding the same" - which in my book is (in this case) moulding some pretty disparate songs in to a consistent whole. IMHO BSN's got a "feel" and "identity" to it that is very rare nowadays. Incidentally, Thomas Sutcliffe (the presenter/anchorman) described the strings as "Hollywood" which I found pretty amusing considering it's the LSO playing. Ah well.... David Mascall PS The favourable opinion came from two female reviewers. One of these said that her partner drove her to distraction by playing lots of Joni which she didn't like, but that this album had changed her opinion of Joni for the better. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2000 18:57:12 +0000 From: catman Subject: Re: Tour datesNJC Just saw philly mentioned-this is where my John is right now. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2000 15:22:46 EST From: SCJoniGuy@aol.com Subject: Re: Joni "Blue" contest NJC In a message dated 3/11/00 9:59:50 AM US Central Standard Time, FMYFL@aol.com writes: << Niether Laura or I can even remember hearing anything about a 1999 reissue of "Blue". Its the same thing. I guess we don't have all of the details yet. Ticketmaster services this venue, and has nothing listed for Joni, yet. (Sorry if this is being discussed; I'm not reading the Ticketmaster thread.) Reuben >Reply-To: Deb Messling >To: joni@smoe.org >Where is the E-Center in Philadelphia? Perhaps the Reprise site will confirm tour dates, venues, etc. Hope there is official word soon, so I can plan my trip to L.A. Sunday morning - just checking in for the week. Stunning discoveries: Jason Marsalis and Billy Gregory will be at the PazFest. Michael, you leave me Breathless - that's all I can say! Can I sing White Bird? (Back to reality - it needs a voice stronger than mine.) And can we get Jason to play drums for Jungle Line? I'll love to sing it - or maybe Marian would attempt it - if it's not already taken? This fest is going to be so incredible I would even pass up seeing Joni to be at this event. But I'm not going to. I will check flights to NYC for the 22nd-23rd. I'd love to meet all the NY jmdler's. Lori, now speechless - oh heck, I don't say much anyway... ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com. ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2000 #135 ***************************** ------- Post messages to the list at Unsubscribe by sending "unsubscribe joni-digest" to ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
