Miracle of miracle, it seems as though I *will* be able to make it to the Troubador on the 4th!!!! :-))))) First good omen for the new year.... Could you e-mail me with some of the finer details, such as access for those of impaired mobility? If it's not to far a walk from the street outside, I may be able to stagger in unaided. Also, stairs, seating arrangements etc ? If I know what to expect, I can take appropraite action (or, hopefully, none may be needed). Can't wait to meet all of you who are going to the UK 2000 Jonifest! :-) Jason. Jamie Zubairi wrote: > Dear all, > Just wishing you a wonderful wonderful New Year. I’ve always had a bit of a problem with this time of year. Weird as it may sound, New Year’s eve can be a real ‘downer’ for me. I always seem to get really melancholy. Both my wife and I hate crowds and the prospect of going into the city to watch six million dollars of public money, so badly needed elsewhere, go pointlessly up in smoke over Sydney Harbour did not have much appeal. Instead, we stayed at home and watched the film “Ulee’s Gold” which, in its quiet and understated way, makes a powerful and positive statement about the human condition. Later, after the rest of this decidedly 'non-party animal' family had decided to go to bed, I saw the New Year in watching “PWWAM”. I wanted to do something that put me in a positive frame of mind when the clock struck twelve. Joni exposes many a flaw in human nature but I always find an optimism in her music that sustains hope for the future. When midnight came I went out onto the verandah and stood in the dark listening to the few strains of celebration that came my way. Alone, with the dark shapes of the trees for company (even the dog had gone to sleep), I felt good. Happy New Year to you all! Probably my favorite song, musically speaking, on Hejira. Love those changing rhythms. Jimdle sports: On the Bowl scene, congrats you JMDL fans of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Michigan State. Great games to watch! I honestly can't think of 5 things that I bought that really got my going, but here's a try, in really no order: 1. Santana -- Supernatural 2. Chantel Kreviasik -- Colour Moving and Still 3. Chemical Brothers -- Surrender 4. Melissa Etheridge -- Breakdown 5. the George Michael greatest hits double cd For me, it was a crappy year for music. Hole's Celebrity Skin was the one cd I listened to almost daily, and nothing really caught my fancy that was released during the year. As for movies, my pick for the Top 5 movies of 99, again in no order: 1. Summer of Sam 2. 200 Cigarettes 3. American Pie 4. Election 5. Notting Hill (call me sappy, but I really liked it) Happy New Year, y'all!
