To my knowledge in the last little while, I think the greatest defender and advocate of DED has been Don Rowe. Of us all, he has shown that he probably understands it the best. She mentioned to me re-doing songs such as "Ludwig's Tune" with >an orchestra. Thanks for the news Wally. I liked Anne's choices for the follow-up to the up-coming album, ( the next NEXT album), however I'd like to see Joni re-record 1 song from each of her albums, (excluding the live albums). Here are my choices, based not on only what I consider to be favorites but what I'd like to hear an orchestra play: The Dawntreader (STAS) Songs to Aging Children Come (Clouds) Rainy Night House (LOTC) River (Blue) Judgement of the Moon & Stars (FTR) Down to You (C&S) The Hissing of Summer Lawns (THOSL) Song For Sharon (Hejira) Paprika Plains (DJRD) The Wolf that Lives in Lindsay (Mingus) Chinese Café/Unchained Melody((WTRF) Dog Eat Dog Number One(CMIAR) Slouching Towards Bethlehem(NRH) The Sire of Sorrow(TI) Stay in Touch(TTT) and... A Case Of You (from the soon to be released "A History of North American Romantic Love in the Twentieth Century" AKA : AHONARLITTC, but with a twist, not recorded with an orchestra but re-re-recorded with DULCIMER, or maybe a DULCIMER ORCHESTRA, in the way Russians sometimes play in those Balalaika "orchestras") Looking forward not only to the February release, but to the next, next release: POC ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Oct 1999 23:13:09 EDT From: Ginamu@aol.com Subject: Re: (NJC) Matthew Shepard Someone wrote: << >It also seems to me that the type of person who hates "different" people for >no apparent rational reason is often someone who is of both low intelligence >and low self-esteem. >> and Jimbo replied: >>I think you are right that homophobia is more noticeable among males. I suspect that is because males have stronger dominance heirarchies in our culture.<< And I have this to share: At the beginning of my marriage, my husband worked at a small, private liberal arts college in the Northeast which shall remain unnamed. We lived on campus as part of the deal. In getting to know some of the highly credentialed faculty members, many of them totally brilliant in their individual disciplines, I was shocked and stunned at the high level of disrespect some (especially white, heterosexual male faculty members) showed toward groups they perceived as inferior to them such as women, minorities and gays. This disrespect was particularly evident at social gatherings when the alcohol was flowing. Some of the most racist, sexist and homophobic jokes and slurs I've ever heard in my life were delivered with the most cynical edge by some of the most gifted minds I'd ever met. It made me sad, discouraged and depressed. I know of others who will also be offering copies once they get theirs. I just wanted to remind everyone who is sending blanks that you need to send two (2) 110 minute tapes to cover the whole show. After a hellish day like today, I don't even remember why I was stressed out. How exciting to have Joni call you with this report. I am so looking forward to this record and the interview to come about it. I hope the record company really gets behind this one and what better place to support a Jazz record but New Orleans? I will do my level best to do anything to promote all things Joni, so anything i can do. Michael P.S. I meant to tell everyone about Voodoo Fest. I am producing a live web cast and a TV special for Jukebox featuring Dr. John with many special guests on Oct. 31 from 11am central till 11pm.
