Any way, overhead mics should be visible no matter how wide the film editor is because it's the _height_ that matters. Further, if the had the money, they could always crop out the offending mic. Films are shot on _negative_ film, right? So it's just a matter of "printing" that particular scene with a very slightly different magnification. Anyway, in most theaters the top and the bottom are chopped off on purpose by the black borders around the screen. Yeah - a duet with Phoebe like the episode Chrissie Hynde did with "Smelly Cat" - she got guitar and singing lessons from Phoebe, very funny! But I have to say one of my favourite episodes of "Ellen" was the one where they all went to a rock'n'roll fantasy camp. David Crosby was the resident "celebrity", and Bonnie Raitt and Aaron Neville also made an appearance - it was very funny, particularly when the Croz was asked if he was carrying any concealed weapons. The reply: "Not any more . . ." Mind you, he's also appeared on a couple of episodes of Roseanne, as the lead singer of a small band at their local bar. (they couldn't have gotten one from our autocratic mayor). so new york's finest charged people on foot with cops on horses. the horses kicked them out of the street! and the arrested who had medications on them had them taken away, including protease inhibitors! for those of you who do not know, the first successful aids therapy ever (EVER) has turned out to be a combination of AZT and one of several new drugs, the 'protease inhibitors'. the catch is that, because the virus mutates so quickly, the regimen of azt and inhibitors has to be followed religiously. and it's not all that pleasant. and if the virus mutates, it's a danger not just to the infected but every one else. and the nypd had no clue, they took the drugs away. i'm deeply upset that they didn't even know the public-health consequences of their actions. sorry to rant, but shepard's death and that action, a couple of days later, made me realize how fragile my place in the world is. like jerome, i live in a city that is allegedly safe, and i interract every day with people who are so comfortable with me. my office is rife with homysexuals, and my hetmale boss doesn't even think about it. it's how we do our jobs, of course, that matters. still, so much hatred, even in my city. i've been bashed. friends of mine were bashed on my doorstep. the last time i heard a snotty, homophobic comment was from a stranger in the subway, oh, a month ago. we're also going through a murder trial for kendra webdale, pushed in front of a subway, by a mentally ill man full of lust and anger towards women. could that guy, or the guy who smarted-off at me in september have pushed me, with the same anger? patrick now trying to find solace from nttfsf - jane siberry - tree ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Oct 1999 01:57:49 -0300 From: "Wally Kairuz" Subject: vega and joni i find vega more into lyrical minimalism and joni is more baroque at times. vega is more like raymond carver and joni more like ... i don't know ...god, perhaps? but i love vega very very much and only the other day i was thinking that vega, rickie lee [jones, ric, not YOU] and laura nyro have influenced me a lot more than has joni . The official announcement of "Joni Fest 2000-New Orleans". I have been working hard trying to put the initial details of this extravaganza together. I will be hosting, along with some of my list mates, a tribute to Joni Mitchell New Orleans style the weekend of May 26-29, 2000. The celebration will officially begin on Friday and continue thru Memorial Day. The only actual plan at this time is a tribute concert at The Howlin Wolf on Sunday the 28th. This concert will be recorded with a remote multitrack truck and we will have a paid production crew so Chuck can just relax backstage before his performance and yes he will be doing a tango or two. I will be adding more details including a rehearsal dinner extrordinaire at my home as well as other events I will be working on with your help. The plan is a brunch and list member concert review in the afternoon on Sunday. That evening we will have a concert that will be open to the general public as well and be a fundraiser for the Ruth Paz Foundation (to help sick kids receive medical attention). There will be a VIP area for ALL list members and their guests. The artists who have agreed to perform so far are none other than Bryan Thomas and David Lahm. I have been working on other artists for this segment and will reserve special surprise guests TBA at a later date on our special list for the event: Subscribe and unsubscribe at http://www.jmdl.com/lists The posting address is I have arranged for special JMDL rates at a nearby pretty nice hotel (close to the concert venue and within crawling distance of the French Quarter, Mississippi River, Riverwalk, Downtown, or many other touristy type areas) at a rate of $99 per night. I will also announce this later this week on the sub-list. There will only be 70 rooms at this rate. It looks like my house is already filled with some of my friends that couldn't actually wait for the "official announcement", but I am considering the possibility of camping in my 1/4 acre yard that is sometimes a swamp. I am also searching for a "starving musicians motel" at a more modest rate. I wanted to write more and earlier in the evening, but my work schedule is interfering with my life so... I encourage you to join the Joni2000 list and be apart of the latest joy in my life. Also please email me privately if you are planning to attend to start getting a feel for how many people will be coming. I am SOOOO excited!
