However, these waterways are dry about six months a year with just a trickle, and they are contained in long, deep cement furrows that are fenced off. The end result is almost a weird parody of nature with a flat stream of algae filled water, occasional weeds and weedy trees that poke up out of holes in the cement, and lots of trash strewn about. The homeless are camped in secret places and occasional pools have ducks and even herons living in them. Anyway, it's been a facsinating place to rollerblade, and all year round I always have their weird river to "skate away on" -- if only Joni knew. I always loved that imagery of a frozen river surrounded by banks of snow. This river is less picturesque, but weirdly ugly and beautiful at the same time. Anyway, my top 5 other than the Joan. 1. Pat Metheny 2. John McLaughlin 3. Pet Shop Boys 4. Beach Boys 5. Annie Lennox And in the top ten: Scritti Politti, M People, Sundays, Gustav Holst, Led Zeppelin. - - Clark np: Isley Bros. - Greatest hits. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 00:28:29 +0200 From: "Peter Holmstedt" Subject: Sally Taylor Tour Dates Here are Sally's tour dates. From: "Debby Magill" Date: Sun, 22 Aug 1999 03:08:20 -0400 Hi! I'm new to the list and finally got up the courage to step in! Somebody mentioned the word "lurkers" and I realized that that's what I've been doing :~) Sorry! I was amazed to find that there are so many Joni fans out there! It's great to find out that I'm not alone with my Joni-itis! =20 Thanks for the tip about the Joni interview on the Entertainment Weekly site. It's a great interview but I was surprised to hear her response to the Joan Osbourne song ... I had found that to be a refreshing and hopeful change to all of the apathy out there. Granted it was designed for Top 40 but what a positive message to bring to the mainstream! It was a lot better than 99% of the stuff on the charts. I did agree with her about the majority of the music going on out there these days but there are always exceptions. For example, I went to see Tori Amos last night and as always left her show admiring her talent and passion. Outside of Joni, there are very few people that have made me feel like that and filled me with so much inspiration. She shared the bill with Alanis Morrisette and although Alanis put on a pretty good show, it was Tori's songs going through my head today (which reminds me of Joni!). Anyway, I'm glad I found you guys and thank you for letting me share my thoughts! I hope it's okay to question Joni's opinions ... I certainly don't want to offend or upset anyone.
