Those of you who have experienced any of the jmdl get- togethers at the Kakkishack, or any of the events that Kakki has organized, know how wonderful she is at this stuff. Any other ideas? HA HA HA. Considering she sounds like the energizer bunny when there's options for what all could be done and squeezed into 'x' amount of time, plus all her similarities to our own Joan, I nominate SIQUOBE. This grotesque violation of privacy and the law was a plan hatched directly in the white House as the person nominated to be head of PBS was the woman who spent more time in the White House than any other single media person. Right after she was nominated by Bill Clinton to this postion the privacy violations commenced. This massive sell out and violation of PBS supposed non-partisan position was a clear violation of its non-profit tax exempt. The media was faced with an easy choice, cover this exploding scandal or an Princess DI sequel event. I feel very sorry for the families BUT John Jr. was not only hardly an achiever but a dim bulb. Frankly the coverage on Saturday was preposterous considering they didnt even know whether they had died or whether they had survived yet the coverage of truly nothing of note went on for nearly 24 hours. Finally I will note that during the day I went several places downtown and people were not only NOT broken up over this non-national tragedy but somewhamiffed as to how the media is trying purposely to exploit the situation. The congressional hearings on the PBS scandal happen next tuesday we'll see how much coverage they get. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jul 1999 20:46:09 EDT From: CaTGirl627@aol.com Subject: Re: Lily, Joni, ice-cream, smokin' In a message dated 7/20/1999 2:50:29 PM Eastern Daylight Time, dgrowe227@yahoo.com writes: << And like all good novelties, the timing of "Smokin" is perfect. Thank you Steve, for giving me such a cute acronym! I love how the Irish add all those extra little letters in their language to confuse everyone else ;-) Penny wrote: > Kakki, do you *ever* sleep? ;-) No, but I'm seriously starting to consider the concept. ;-) Yesterday after returning home late after spending a whirlwind 10 hours traveling to Northern California on business, I set to working on my tape dubbing backlog, only to be confronted with streams of water start pouring from my kitchen ceiling. I pleaded with security to call emergency maintenance but they told me to get out some buckets and wait for morning. Kakki- I too was disturbed/mesmerized/numbed/confused by the constant coverage of this unfolding tragedy. I was constantly weepy thinking of how my own family remember the many tragedies of this family esp. the JFK murder. Remembering the images of young John John and Caroline. The media did the same thing when Diana was killed and maybe that was even a part of what killed her. The constant scrutiny of people because they are a singer, actor, politician, or someone who performs oral sex on someone famous, will never cease to amaze me. I am sure there is more tasteless reporting to come. One thing is for sure, the ocean off Atty May's will never look quite the same to me after this past weekend. "they" FORCE us to '(re)live' the tragedies as they are happening...... it's hard enough just to CARE about those YOU love and the people that are special to you... even if they are a socalled "celebrity"... they are PEOPLE too; just like a. and b. ya know?? am I cynical? NO ... i feel horrible, of course i do... and i think i feel worse, because the media has FORCED another 'ROYAL" tragedy upon me.... What make one persons tragedy more painful then someone else's? More media hype? I think not. We are all humans and when any one of us loses a loved one it hurts just as much as when a famous person dies. I try to stay away from the news PERIOD! There is just too much pain and suffering and the media has to show all the saddness and never makes much time for the happier things in life. I wish you would post more. I thought you were very insightful! I decided some time ago when I was listening to STAS (even though I still think it's Joni Mitchell but STAS sounds much better so I guess I've changed my mind). I thought that the lines from Michael From Mountains was a fitting tag at the end of an e-mail for friends and friends to be. We can learn so much more about everyone, even those that are closest to us and I thought it would be nice to add those words. Joni's songs make me happy on a daily basis (I have around 16 albums although I have yet to really count them but I am missing some good ones like DJRD, CMIARS, DED...although I am fearful of it from what some people on the list [and my girlfriend] are saying about it, WTRF, and all of the tape trees that are out there that someday I may get my hands on) and I thought why not share them with those that are not so aquainted with her music as those on this list. I don't see how one is FORCED to watch anything, and certainly not FORCED by the United States, usually the same button that turns on the box also turns it off. The strange thing about the coverage of this tragedy is 100 hours of continual "news" coverage, with no "news".
