John, you are not in the minority. After reading many negative reviews here, I was not going to buy it but after glancing at it (on sale) at the book store, I figured that it was at least worth the photos. Once I started reading it, I was far more impressed than anticipated. I did see it as mostly a compilation of several years of articles and reviews, but that in itself has some value to me - to sort of all have them summarized in one place. You wrote: >As for Hinton's subjective and sometimes unusual ('goofy'- great word) >reflections on Joni's songs - they are just that, subjective opinions that >can be accepted or rejected! Music criticism is full of these. I agree - and it would not be the first time an author's personal slant was revealed in a biography. Ulltimately, it seemed apparent to me that Hinton meant well and revered his subject. We may never see a truly definitive biography on Joni - supposedly her own anticipated "autobiography" is going to take more the form of a collection of anecdotal stories from her life. >PS. Jim H., I haven't come to the part yet where Joni is "celabate (sic) >since 1967" (Thurs. 15 July, Digest 311). I'll look out for that one! Ha! I don't recall that one. Perhaps Jim is being a kidder? ;-) Jim, what page may we find this one on? I have not taken off your gift since it was given me and often pray for you and your family silently rolling it in my fingers. You are right to share with us here regardless and I am always listening and you have my numbers and can call whenever you need to talk to someone (hey I'll even play you a song over the speaker phone I found out it works pretty good). I am looking forward to being with you again this fall and sharing love and music. Keep your strength up for Judy and the girls as it is now when they need you the most. Be well and may the Lord bless you all and keep you. Michael ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V4 #313 ************************** The Song and Album Voting Booths are open!
