Since so many people are explaining why they dont post very often,I suppose its my turn to come out of the shadows and fess up.My main reason has been my health.I had been undergoing treatments for breast cancer when I joined the list in December and was in a state of major exhaustion(I had to take a leave of absence from work)I went back to work in March became run down and developed the worst flu of my life! and was out of work another 2weeks.I 've been back to work fulltime for about 2 1/2 months and they have been working me like a dog!By the time I get out of work, run errands, come home take care of my 6 cats and 1 dog,fix dinner get ready for work the next day, check my regular mail and read the JMDL posts I'm exhausted and its beddy bye time for me.I think of things I'd like to say,but I cant stay awake to type and send. Not being a very good typist doesnt help either.I'm also not very knowledgeble when it comes to modern music and politics and alot of stuff goes over my head.I also feel that so many people on this list are so intelligent amd knowledgeble and express themselves like journalists and I guess I'm afraid of expressing a thought or opinion and sounding like a dweeb.I guess I just have low self esteem or something.Should I seek therapy? Anyway, even though I rarely post I love this list.I still cant believe it exists.I mean for so many yrs I felt I was living in a Joni vacuum, like I was the only one in the whole world that listened to her music. When I would talk about her,no one wanted to listen, told me I was obsessed and told me to get a life.I used to(and still do) ask friends and family if its OK if I talk about her or put on one of her CDs (imagine feeling like you have to ask permission to do that!)A friend of mine shook her head and said "You've got it bad" when she saw me wearing my Joni denim shirt. My brother said to me the other day " I hope you know there are other websites out there besides Joni's" I know we all have had to endure this kind of treatment because of our love for Joni and I guess thats one of the reasons I feel such a connection to this list;because we all have endured and stuck by our Joan no matter what. What a great feeling to know that you all are out there and that we are not alone anymore! Take care...Lisa(who has been on this computer for 1 1/2 hrs! and put great effort into typing this post and who hopes there arent too many errors!) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jun 1999 19:45:46 EDT From: IVPAUL42@aol.com Subject: Re: Case Of You Question In a message dated 6/7/99 7:39:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time, revrvl@pathwaynet.com writes: << > Sorry, but it's wine, not beer. > "You're in my blood like holy wine; so bitter and so sweet." > > Paul I She is mixing her metaphors (and drink) maybe... granted the next lines are as quoted, but no Canadian I ever knew referred to wine as being in a case, but a case of Molsons or LaBlatts... that is what Canadians buy by the case! Today, I spent some time thinking about why that is. My first post was a question about Joni's possible opnions on abortion. i was listening to "How Do You Stop" and it was the line "How do you stop a baby being born?" that sparked my curiousity. While I realize that abortion is not necessarily the implication of the line, and I also realize that Joni didn't write that song, but I still thought it was a valid point/thread, as people who have given their children up for adoption, and adopted children, often have a wide variety of views on abortion. THAT was my point. However, every response to my post was basically "Duhhh... she's not talking about abortion." I immediately felt like an idiot and regretted posting. I went back to lurking, and only subscribed to the real-time feature when I started my new job, which allows me to spend plenty of time at my desk (though I can still barely keep up with the posts.) The other time I spoke up, about my experiences with outsiders in high school, generated a couple private replies that I felt were attacking and that made me uncomfortable. Again, I figured I should just keep my mouth shut. I certainly was not out to "prove anyone's point", or be an accessory to anyone's political agenda. I can think of two other times that my posts have been completely ignored, and lemme tell ya, it doesn't make a person want to ask a question or raise a point. I REALLY like being part of this list. I totally look forward to each and every post, I read them all (ok, so I skip the guitar technicalities), and I spend a good deal of time thinking about some of the more thought-provoking threads. Joni content, or not. Some of you I feel I almost know. I am eagerly looking forward to JoniFest (and some guitar lessons from Marian). However, I can't help but feel some amount of inferiority when posting. Sometimes I wish you guys would think of this list as more of a CONVERSATION. There are many things that are posted on here that one would never have the bad manners to say in person. Just as you would never completely ignore someone who was speaking to you. Unfortunately, the internet has done much to "casualize" discussions, to the point that common manners no longer apply. I personally think this is a goal that we as a group should to try hard to overcome. jen... not being terribly articulate, but doesn't really care...I'm goin' home!! Jenaya H. I now expect to be attacked by the wine affecienados, albeit I never drink beer myself and serve wine to many people every Sunday and festival day (in the Eucharist), and Joni may well enjoy a fine wine over a cold frosty one, but I am sure that Roberta Joan Anderson threw down a few cold ones in her time... In Raised on Robbery, the hockey fan has to switched from something to gin, and that something in any Canadian bar with the hockey game on would be a beer... and bottom line, I personally know no one who buys wine by the case. I know a lot of people do, but beer was the association in my mind, wrong and lower class that I am, low class people that I hang with, and I am wrong, and I am sorry, and I signed the last post "desparately trying to make a save" which was a little attempt to say that I was aware of my error. Jen, I suspect that you picked up on that, and I thank you. Now enough of this.
