You ever tried to run down a cartridge for a B&O turntable when you are just dying to burn some vinyl. Well you are all running this thread and I have never purchased the first two on CD. Okay call me whatever but I now repent of that sin for I have see the error of my ways. If no luck tommorrow I will go purchase the CD's and have a less warm listen to those first two albums. Call me old fashion but when I have heard them on CD they did have the snap, crackle and warm pop of vinyl and thus lost me. I will not repent of these feelings and have no need of absolution here. Peace, Craig ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Apr 99 19:26:13 -0700 From: Wally Breese Subject: Tour? Hi everyone, I've been reading the talk here about an upcoming tour with Joni & Van, so I messaged Joni's managers today and asked about it. Their response was that Joni could only be touring with Van if she'd arranged everything without them. So, there's no such tour according to these official sources. Sorry. I truly would have loved to have confirmed a new batch of dates for JM. I have almost every album (some in multiple quantities) on vinyl up through Chalkmark and also have most of them on CD, too. I usually only play the CDs for convenience at the computer or Karaoke-ing ;-D, but when I *really* want to hear her I must put on the vinyl. Good luck in your needle search. I need a new one, too, if anyone (Jim L.) has any good suggestions. Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Apr 1999 23:11:57 EDT From: Dflahm@aol.com Subject: Re: Faves/Least faves Deb, I totally agree with you about "The Jungle Line"--it is so clear, so fierce, so startlingly original. One of the first indications that her innovations would go beyond lyric-writing and harmonies on into the total setting of a mood, evoking a mood that you could call "confronting" "threatening" "sinister"--the recognition of a new world out there she hadn't seemed completely to bring into the music before. The easiest word for it would be BLACK . It reappears briefly in "Don't Interrupt..." with the reference to being chained to that Ethiopian wall. (Pardon me if I have the order of albums mixed up and am not taking into account DJRD). I got pretty excited yesterday, seeing JAZZ TAKES...in a store for the first time. It was an HMV, correctly stocked alphabetically, even if my name wasn't on the card. One of the restaurants where I play has added it to their gigantic CD shuffle on the house sound system and between sets, I heard "Song for Sharon." I gotta admit it, it's a rush! Of course the comments of Kakki were the best, coming from someone to whom JM's music is deeply significant. Paul I ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Apr 1999 16:19:47 +1200 From: "Helen M. Adcock" Subject: PWWAM video - questions/observations I have an observation and a question about the "Painting with Words and Music" video, now that I've found time to watch it more than once! Observation: I found it interesting that Joni chose to sing four songs from Hejira, and only one or two from other albums (aside from TTT - 3, which newly released, you would expect her to promote). This, matched with the observation that it appears to rate as the "favourite" JM album among many/most listers, makes me think that perhaps the reason it's the favourite with so many people is that it's her favourite too - maybe the emotions are stronger. Any thoughts, anyone? Maybe it's that vocally she finds that album more "attainable" (for want of a better word) than her earlier work? Or is it that the songs lend themselves to the musicians she had assembled on the night more than others? Or is it just a coincidence, and I'm raving about nothing!!! Question: Regarding her comment about the appropriateness of the garbage bag for the Hall of Fame award. Was there some controversy at the time in her non-attendance? Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I'm relatively new, and don't get out much. Just kidding! It's living in New Zealand - we either get deprived of news, or it arrives too late to be relevant! And I couldn't find any reference to it on the home page - and can't spare the time for a more detailed search. Thanking you all in anticipation! Helen NP - TTT - it's growing on me, but I don't agree with Man From Mars as a single. The melody is too heavy. Maybe Harlem in Havana or Lead Balloon (sorry, I like it a lot!) and in retrospect, The Crazy Cries of Love wasn't such a bad choice. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Apr 1999 00:25:13 EDT From: CaTGirl627@aol.com Subject: Re: Joni Sighting In a message dated 4/6/1999 10:00:40 PM Eastern Daylight Time, les@jmdl.com writes: << Walked into the living room to send my son off for bath and bed and Joni makes and appearance on "The Wonder Years" with "Circle Game". Larry produced some of Shawn's albums and has toured with her but I don't think they were ever involved romantically. Think she's been involved with the man who is now her husband for quite some time and she also respects Joni to the hilt. There are tons of articles on the JMDL site which can answer so many questions one has always wondered about. Joni talks about her marriage and Larry and Shawn in several of them. She and Larry are still very close. Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Apr 1999 01:04:18 -0400 From: "Eric G.
