Gasoline prices have risen in Texas, too, but that seems to happen everywhere every spring and summer. Presently, premium gas is hovering around $1.25 per gallon in San Antonio. In Alamo Heights, a small, tony (and separate) city in the middle of San Antonio, gasoline goes for around $1.75/gallon or more all of the time -- I guess it has gold flakes in it or something. Regardless, I maintain that we in the U.S. have little to gripe about as regards gasoline prices, especially when we consider what folks in other countries pay. And we're fuel hogs, besides. Among them was a disc on Rhino, "Troubadours of the Folk Era, Vol. 2", which I noticed had Joni "Both Sides Now" & Tom Rush "Circle Game" as well as 16 more nice tracks. I also picked up a CD by Caroline Lavelle just on a whim, didn't even look at what was on it. So I get home, put the 6 discs in the player, on random shuffle, and the first song to pop up is a Joni tune, but not the one I thought I'd hear. It seems there was a cover of "A Case of You" on the Caroline Lavelle CD! Way Cool! Made my night... ps: the rest of that Caroline Lavelle CD is really good too! One could get carpal tunnel just scrolling past the MIME.... The Melissa virus should prompt us all to email articles without making them an attachment (which can contain viruses and too few can open anyway). Windows 95/98-Internet Explorer users, just highlight the text by holding down the left mouse button and dragging the cursor over it, then right click the selected text, click Copy, open new email, and right click Paste in the message body. It's also important to change the format to Plain Text when sending stuff to the JMDL, newsgroups and AOL users. And while I'm nitpicking, I think governments should impose a greenhouse tax on gasoline to encourage alternative fuel technology and help pay to clean up the environmental mess combustion engines have wreaked. I don't know how many litres are in a gallon... 4 litres? Hmmm.... ask Heather, she is the science person on the list! As well, a pack of smokes cost me $6.25 tonight, which brought my whole bill at the gas station to $30 bucks. Just from the expressions on people's faces, it was evident as to who gets high and who doesn't. Every year NPR features a very clever April Fools joke. I missed this year's. However, for the record, I don't HATE any of the songs in my least fave... they are simply, my least fave ones on the album. WELL... OK, maybe one or two grate on my nerves, but seriously, when you try to pick a least fave from HOSL, or Hejira or Blue or C&S, it's like pulling teeth. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I am actually shocked how many people dislike, or don't favor, or whatever, "Don't Interupt the Sorrow". Hell, I thought for sure it would be a fave. Same goes for "Nothing Can be Done". I love these little polls, since they allow you to learn about other people (and make you snort at the screen and mutter "they actually LOVE that song over the other one??). Anyway, just had to say these song choices are really interesting! Happy Good Friday, Evian ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Apr 1999 00:15:01 -0600 From: "Jeffery W. I like what I have read lately about the advances that make wind-up energy storage devices good enough to replace batteries in many applications. Gas in Indiana has gone up from .80/gal. to .98/gal. in the past few weeks. Cheap enough, but petrocarbons are not cool. I want my wind-up Toshiba notebook computer! PRAISE BE to the 'Today In Joni History' info! Good service, it seems. It was so touching two years ago to read that Joni had been reunited with Kilauren. My household and my extended family all shared warm vibes in knowing Joni was blessed with the event. It caused an increase in the Joni playtime in the old CD player - Always a good thing! BTW, if you have not heard Sara McLaughlin's rendition of Blue, you should seek it out. It's on her 1994 CD-single 'Good Enough'. I like to hear the two cuts back-to-back. mmmmm.... Thanks everyone, for sharing! My love to you all, earthlings. Call me! Sounds fascinating! My family has a 120v windmill generator (originally owned by George Harrison) on the Big Island of Hawaii but it is impractical. It required 19 deep-cycle battaries which needed replacing all the time and can't even run a microwave oven! Last year we installed a solar system which can run a dryer. And you definately need a dryer on the Waa Waa Road if you're a "haole" (Hawaiian for spoiled whiteman).... It's the only tropical rainforest in the United States. I hate taxes too. But I also support a big tax on big tobacco because it might help me quit (or else make me even poorer). E.T. - ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeffery W.
