I love a good boycott as much as anyone, but the price of gasoline in America is NOT high. For several of the past months I've paid less than a dollar per gallonfor premium fuel, and when I was in California in January, I found premium gasoline to be only $1.34 per gallon. Cute, Bob! Love it! Just for the record, I *have* noticed that most admonishments are male-to- female, although they really don't bother me much as I usually just ignore them all. As far as Phyliss' offer is concerned, I knew it would be deemed inappropriate as soon as I saw it, but I think it was nice of Phyliss to include us just the same. I rarely save email and don't usually participate in sweepstakes of any kind, but I actually did save that one letter, thinking I might get lucky and make Phyliss lucky, too. Regarding the Gas Rebellion email, I view it as a good source of NJC political debate, which you guys all know I adore. No harm done, as far as I can see. Oh god fobid we ride the bus -- well make it impossible enough to get anywhere in an automobile -- and people do start riding public transportation. (I especially liked the "Bubba Dubba" one.) My good friend passed on late yesterday afternoon, and the smiles on this list were one of things that have really kept me going. Thank you to all the wonderful listers that have sent good thoughts my way, and made some really wonderful suggestions for a song that I could sing at Sandie's funeral service. In having more of a chance to think about it, "The Wind Beneath My Wings" really is the appropriate song to sing, as she and I are very much like the two characters in "Beaches." She is the more Talbot-dressing, quiet, conservative kinda gal, and I am the wild, crazy, loud, Leoish Jewish one. And even though we have not known each other since childhood, ours is a very long friendship and the bond is as close as the characters in the movie. The more I think about it, even just writing this, the more I realize it is the perfect song. I got the words and the chords off the internet, so as long as I can sing it without totally cracking up, which will be almost impossible to do, I think that is the song I'll sing. I don't know what you all think is appropriate or not to post on this, or what is politically, morally, or editorially correct to post on this list. All I know is that you all have gotten me through some rough times this past year, and I have learned more about our dear Joni than I ever imagined I would in the over 30 years I've been a fan.
