One of his 2 love interests in the film is Mariel Hemingway who was all of what? 16? 17? years old. 'Manhattan' is considered to be one of Woody's masterpieces. Would watching it now in light of the whole Mia/Sun Yi debacle make any of us uneasy? How would we feel about Michael Jackson recording impeccably produced, melodically & lyrically beautiful love songs to little boys? Not that he's done that (at least not that we know of). In Joni's case, a lot of people harp on her trashing of current artists and the music business in general and that certainly has popped up in her art from time to time. Does it make 'Taming the Tiger' or 'For the Roses' inferior or less enjoyable than some of her other songs? I can remember being in high school around 1974-75, when Elton John announced that he was "bisexual." (I think he was trying to soften the blow, as it were ... my brother later tried the same thing for my mother's sake. Silly boys.) In that very conservative small city and probably many other places, there was a big stink about whether or not to stop buying/playing Elton's music. I wasn't out of the closet yet and actually thought I disliked gay people, but it didn't take me long (like maybe two minutes) to figure out that I didn't care what Elton (or anyone) does in private. He's an artist and a performer, and his work brings me joy. The C&W crowd pissed all over k.d. lang when she vocalized her sentiments about PeTA and vegetarianism (nevermind her lesbianism). Did her politics make her any less of an excellent C&W singer? I think not. As far as Joni deriding others' work, I think it's tacky, but Joni is as human as anyone and is just as entitled to voice her opinion. I wonder if some people will ever learn to separate "issues" from art. (In other words, will they ever get a life?) There were some recipes that would have been longer than one page had I included the bios with the recipes. There was also the problem that some people contributed more than one recipe and I wasn't sure where to put the bio in that case. I felt the best solution was to have a section for recipes and another section for the bios. Some people included comments about their recipe which I put in italics as a quote at the beginning of the recipe. I feel a little confused right now about some of the comments being made and suggestions for changes. Are you all talking about the cookbook that I want to send on Tuesday, or the one that Jerry Notaro is going to take over from me to have printed for sale as a fundraiser? I've devoted a lot of time to the book and was hoping not to have to make any more major changes like shortening all the bios, making completely new sections and reorganizing everything, but I guess if the majority of people feel that this should be done, then I will do it. I think people didn't realize that there were two versions of the cookbook (I hadn't thought about it).
