When I was an undergrad one of my great pals was a fanatical Metheny fan, and when the Pat Metheny Group played a show near our university my friend kindly took me along, since I think I was one of the few people he knew who knew Pat Metheny's music. It was a really memorable show, and afterwards my friend dragged me to the stage door to wait, since he was truly fanatical and on a mission to meet Pat and "shake the hand that plays those notes." Metheny did come out and chat with the seven or eight of use who were waiting. I didn't get to speak to him much since his more well-versed fans had lots to say to him, but when my turn to shake hands and say hello came I did mention that I had seen him and Lyle on the S&L tour five or six years previous, and he smiled broadly and said "Oh yeah, we had fun on that tour . It was lots of fun." And that was the extent of our chat, but he did seem to have genuinely enjoyed himself. Don't know why Joni didn't use him on subsequent records (someone asked about that) but it appeared (from my sixty second encounter with him, at least) that he had good feelings about the whole experience. (PS: Now I must settle the Teletubbie confusion. I quizzed my four year old about the situation and she says that there are two boys and two girls in the group although she could not specify who was what. She did say, however, that they are ALL married to each other. Kind of a Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice thing going on. I'm taking her word on this, since she watches the tubbies more frequently than the Reverend Jer, I'll bet money on that.)
