Can't think of any others, but "Long and Winding Road," "They Dance Alone" (Sting), and "Broken Rainbow" (Nyro) get to me almost as much. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Dec 1998 23:59:46 -0500 From: Madden Subject: Weepy Songs This is a great question. Unfortunately I can probably picture myself at work tomorrow being distracted trying to think of others but here's a few right off the top of my head - Dimming of the Day - Bonnie Raiit Joni's River & Little Green (because of the background and knowing the turmoil she must have been going through when she wrote these songs) - they are sooooooooo sad! Emmylou Harris' Lonely Street - the emotion in her voice is incredibly beautiful - I just crank up the stereo and let it rip - I love it, it is so depressing but I'm a sucker for these types of songs! How about Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" Boo Hoo, especially when he sang it on the Grammy Awards (that year he won)and then he gave his acceptance speech. This song is such a heart tugger - for a parent to have to sing this about his only little kid's death! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1998 00:14:00 -0500 From: Madden Subject: Weepy songs again I'm terriby sorry but I knew this would happen 2 more - Everybody Hurts (REM) - someone mentioned this one already - it's a great song Love Hurts - Nazareth sings this but I just love Emmylou Harris & Gram Parsons' version. Emmylou and Buddy Miller also do a slightly different version on the Spyboy album. It's Emmylou's gorgeous voice, she has that little "catch" that I love! I am going to bed. Goodnight! I am not a big Melissa Manchester fan by anymeans but her song........and I'm not even sure of the name anymore (getting old). Used to have this album YEARS ago. Anyone who knows....correct me if I got the name wrong. 1. Warmth of the Sun - Melissa Manchester (gots me weepy most of the time tho haven't heard it for a long time) 2. Set it Free - Kenny Loggins 3. Enter My Dream - Kenny Loggins 4. Please Don't go - Boys II Man (definitly associated with a life tragedy.......actually hard to listen to because of the association more than anything. It was on the radio all the time back when. A real nose blower for me) 5. I Try - Angela Bofill 6. Sail on Sailor - Beach Boys (Kooky right? But it can send me!) 7. Fortress Around Your Heart - Sting (especially while watching his video of the song) 8. Song for Sharon - Joni (hadn't listened to this song in years then put it on a couple months ago. Started tearing!!) 9. Beginnings - Chicago (I'm a sap for the lyrics) 10. Say what's in my heart - Aaron Neville (I get misty) . Others that have been mentioned are "Child's Song" and "Don't Give Up." Another that has not been mentioned is David Crosby's "Guinnevere."
