In DownBeat Magazine's December 1996 issue, there's an offering where Joni is interviewed with the Jazz world's Cassandra Wilson. It finds Joni saying nice things about her peers. (For once?) In Canada's Maclean's Magazine's April 21 1997 issue, you'll get a few details of the Kilauren story that's not found in the Vanity Fair story. I'd suggest that you include these Joni web sites in your book as references and/or as "thank you" credits: http://www.jonimitchell.com http://www.jmdl.com The two fellas who run these sites pay for maintenance on these sites from their own pockets. You could write your book using just these two web sites! You'll find a list of articles on Les' Joni Mitchell Discussion List (JMDL) site offers a sampling of articles to get you started. Many years ago i lived on the streets of Soho here in London. I was taken care of by the rent girls and boys. Protected, alweays had a bed for the night, men were kept away, sometime forcefully, and I was kept away from 'work'. I will never forget how much love and care those 'scum' gave me. I also drove from Presque Isle in Maine up thru NB to Quebec City. I knew that frnech was spoken but was not prepared for it being the only language. The drive into Quebce City was scary as I hate heights and that bridge into the city was dreadful. It took hours to find my way out of the city. No-one spoke English. In fact many just ignored the fact I had spoken. A nice couple diod speak to me and told me I could use my AA card there if I broke down. i didn't Thank God.! Qubec City was lovely. Have lots of opics. To see icebergs floating down the St Lawrence was weird! From Montreal I drove to Ottowa and from there to toronto but on back roads(rt 7 I think). During that drive, surrounded by snow covered wilderness, I thought I was having an hallucination. I suddenly saw a sign for a Chinese Take Away!!!! It was real and I stopped to eat. Ordered a dish of Seuzchuan Veges and fried rice. I was given enough for 3 people! I asked the woman what they did during the winter. @we stay in' she said. I thought that explained a lot!!! In the USA as I was driving from Boston(Logan) to Maine, I saw roadworkers being guarded by police. Shit, I thought, crime really is that bad here if roadworkers need armed protection. Twords the end of my driving holiday i mentioned this and the person laughed and informed my they were prisoners working on the orads!!! I felt a bit dim! Am hoping to visit USA and Can again-by 2000 I hope. Have to visit MG, Lori, Roberto, Susan, Terry, Sue, Brian. Kenny and more. Will need weeks to do it. Think I will visit Lori first and she can loan me her gun. On my way to spend Thanksgiving in Missouri, I was driving through the Buckle of the Baptist Belt, Oklahoma, when I heard "Chocolate Salty Balls" on the radio around 2 am. I was astounded not only because of the song's overt sexual content, but because I was hearing it in Oklahoma of all places! That's the only time I've heard the song, which I understand comes from the animated "South Park" series. Basically it begins as a "recipe" by the character Chef. Yesterday, my dad (now 70) and I listened to the tapes together. There was a bit of a tear in his eye, but I pretended not to notice as I tried to keep my own emotions in check. Thought I 'd share. Aren't they saying it is digitally remastered? I believe the only open tuning is "Dear Prudence" - drop D. Play Julia with capo on 2nd fret and use C as your first chord and all of a sudden it makes sense. I've always played Blackbird in G (standard tuning) with classical type chording but I would have to listen to the record for any tell tale low notes to be sure. Julia, Dear Prudence and to a lesser degree Blackbird, though, use a new style of playing for the Beatles which is a finger picking style. If I remember correctly John learned it first in India from someone else there and then showed it to the others. If I remember George had a bit of a problem picking it up. Once you learn the style of picking you will see that no tuning is needed.
