Subject: Welcome P. Henry
Hi Kakki, P. Henry et al,
I have been enjoying this thread as of late. I esp. enjoyed your
post on the matter Kakki an I too am looking forward to more on the
subject. I also want to wish you a blessed, safe, and happy Christmas
and thank you for the article on Meg Ryan/IHC and the lovely tape you
sent which is on now (NP-Trouble Man-Kenny Rankin). I continue to be
very busy implementing a relief/recontructive plan for the people of
Northeastern Honduras. Joni continues to heal my wounds and alot of my
special friends here who have touched me in ways I find hard to express
exactly how I feel, but know that I love you all deeply (Kakki, Chuck,
Ashara, Marian, Ric,). I enjoy the banter and have learned to deal with
the outer crust of our community here and look to the future with eyes
wide open. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year. AND a
BIG WELCOME to P. HENRY AND ALL OTHER NEWBIES.
Love,
Michael

Hi everyone,
Rolling Stone's year end "Special Double Issue" (12/24/98-1/7/99),
featuring a photo of Jewel on the cover, is now on newstands and Joni
gets two mentions in this issue. First, in the "1998 Rock & Roll
Yearbook" section for the month of May, there's a report on the "Trio"
tour of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Joni. The same photos used when the
tour was originally covered are shown again here. Second, in "The Year In
Recordings (albums that mattered in 1998)," her new album Taming The
Tiger is reviewed alongside of Madonna's album Ray Of Light.
The fact that RS is now calling TTT one of the best albums of the
year when it never bothered to actually feature it in its album review
"Recordings" section, is mind-boggling and typical of the dismissive
manner that the most commercial of the media outlets treat Joni's work.
RS now calls the album one of the best of the year, but they wouldn't
stoop to review it at the time of it's release when a focus like that
could've certainly positively affected early sales figures. If I had a
drink, I'd throw it. *-)
AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH!
CHEERS,

in that room felt like Joni was their personal friend, cause that's the
way she was... (is) personal!"
Pat I know what this feels like and there are not that many feelings I
would qualify like them. I spent a glorious weekend in New England
singing and getting to know some of the most amazing people I have ever
had the privilege to meet. I hope I have the honor of singing ensemble
with you, kakki, ashara, jim, chuck, marian, michael, brian, claud, but
then I drop to many names....
love and blessings to you at Christmas

Nor did she credit Francis Scott Key in DJRD come to think of it!

If an apology on my part is in order and will assuage the wounds and get
P.Henry (no relation to O.Henry, I suppose) to post his exploits, I offer it
immediately and with all sincerity - frankly, I don't think he's been treated
so shabbily, my first couple of posts people poked fun a bit - I just assumed
I didn't express myself clearly and tried again. I would encourage P to do the
same- we're a pretty easygoing lot, after all...

Subject: Happy Holidays!
Dear Listers,
before I leave for my parents' house in Hamburg, I'd like to wish all you
wonderful folks peaceful and joyous holidays.
Welcome again to all the newbies on the list -- please speak up and let us
know about yourself. As Mariana once put it, "it's all relevant".
Here's an excerpt from a "Filserbrief" that I found in today's newspaper. A
"Filserbrief" is a special German kind of satire, in which we make fun of
our own, sometimes limited knowledge of the English language and the
difficulties that arise out of the existence of so-called "false friends"
(i.e. translating directly). Hope you get the idea and are able to enjoy
it -- at least for somebody who speaks both languages, it is bloody
hilarious!

"All years again"
Dear Peter,
to this time of the year play all people crazy. They have a screw loose.
Where you also stand and where you also go: You are overall over-showered
from Christmas -- on the streets and on markets, in the shops and in the
churches, in the houses and in all television-channels. The heavenly
army-troops sing it, loud from far and near: "Sweeter the bells never
cling", "Tomorrow comes the Christmas-Man", Daughter Zion, joy yourself".
But the tophit is "Still Night". Harry Belafonte sings it and Bing Crosby,
Karel Gott and Julio Iglesias, Heino, Cindy und Bert, not to forget Bill
Clinton who it on the sexophone plays. And I? I am dreaming of a White
Christmas...
... On the third Advent-Sunday, was the hell loose in the city. Tenthousands
of beseekers tortured themselves through the footgangster-zone. Hereby, oh
you creditors. A whole folk in consumption-ecstasy, from all the ghosts
left. And all in a horrible stress. Who can there still quiet blood beware?
It gives no escape, no chance for a backtrain. Under this burden break I
together. And every year the same procedure as last year: There went an
order out from the Emperor Mammon, that on earths profit to make is, cost it
what it will. As if it so in the Bible stands. All years again.
Will it under such circumstances not better be, this whole circus up to
give? I have there an idea: We should Christmas from now on in the internet
bego. The internet is namely the new universal-religion. Without stress sit
you therehome, surf through the Christmas-Forest, visit Snow-White and the
Seven Dwarfs, how they the high-holy feast bego, and finish all your
shopping in a virtual Harrods or Disney World Christmas Market. The real
environment will us from whole heart thankbar be -- no stop and go on the
autobahn, no benzin-consumption, no stinky air. Is this not fantastic?...
... Dear Peter, I wish you what -- sleep in heavenly rest.
Your true Gisela
