Y'all can probably guess what I'll put... 1. James Taylor's Mud Slide Slim. My first. 2. Joni Mitchell's Blue. My first. 3. Elton John's Your Song album. Pure magic. 4. Michael Johnson's There is a Breeze. What a song. 5. Phil Och's Crucifixion. Talk about metaphor. And that leaves out Bookends by Simon and Garf, and Mother Lode by Loggins and Messina, Judith by Judy Collins, Operator by Jim Croce, and a bunch of other classics. So much great music out there. Merry Christmas Everyone! alan@ames.net ps. never meant to offend anyone with joan baez joke, it was not meant seriously, but there may still be a grain of truth to that, for me, subconsciously anyway... interesting posts nonetheless to hear people defend joan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Dec 1998 23:15:37 -0600 From: mann@chicagonet.net Subject: Favorite Holiday Music & Cool Picture My favorite Holiday Music has got to be: Jingle Cats & Meowy X-Mas Has anyone else heard these CD's? On some interview I read, Rickie showed disrespect for Joni, especially her jazz efforts, saying that it wasn't part of who she was or where she was from. Now this really pissed me off, pardon my french. I'm not positive, but I don't think Rickie's style of music was flourishing in Southern California. And besides, music is a collection of sounds and styles; if people only did what they were expected to, life would be pretty damn boring. We have to experiment, find things that suit us. For her to say that was extremely short minded, and I can never forget it. I do like Rickie Lee's music (the song "Saturday Afternoons in 1963" makes me teary eyed every time) but for her to say that was not very respectful. And I've always guessed that her disrespect for Joni stems from jealousy, as Joni is much more revered than she. Just some thoughts, Eric PS-Does anyone have "Ghostyhead"? I have the album cover up on my wall to freak people out, and I want to hear the album. I saw her on "Sessions at West 54th" and I like the song "Matters": "Does it matter if you're fat/ you wear a helmet, wear a hat".... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Dec 1998 21:56:59 -0800 From: Susan Chaloner Subject: Re: Top 5 Albums Linda love wrote! > top 5 albums of all time... now that's tough... So if you had a tie for all places from 1st to 5th for example, it would actually be your top ten. See what I mean? And I'm glad not too many have mentioned 'best of' collections as that is also not a true guide of the album concept's worth. But, oh the delights of people's choices. It's like being a child left alone in a sweet shop! Bet there are a few of us visiting the record stores in the next few weeks and trying some new ones out for ourselves.
