I just wanted to let everyone know that I completed the cookbook and
sent it to Wally on Monday.
I received recipes from the following people:
Adam Nixon
Alan
Amy
Ashara
AzeemK
Brian Mansfield
Danny Costello
Denise Moser
Don Rowe
Ginny McCord
Howard Wright
Jerry Notaro
Jill Linn
Jody Johnson
John & Allison Lind

In the end, I put all of the recipes and bios into a Microsoft Word (W95
version) document. There were about 70 recipes submitted.
I found a nice binder with berries on the cover and I inserted each page
into a nice clear plastic cover designed especially to fit into the
binder. I put the recipes in a first section and then the bios in a
second section, both organized alphabetically. I was able to give an
individual page to each recipe and bio, although in a couple of cases
where recipes were meant to go together and didn't follow each other
alphabetically, I fit a couple of recipes together on one page.
If anyone would like to have the Word document, let me know. I will get
it to you as soon as I reorganize it to look like what was printed out
and sent to Wally. Before you print it yourself, you should know that
it is formatted for the European standard paper size (A4) which is
slightly narrower and longer than the 8-1/2 x 11 American paper size, so
recipes and bios which fit onto one A4-sized page might need an
additional page when printed on 8-1/2 x 11 paper. I hope, over the
holidays, to transfer the document into HTML code and set up a separate
section for it in the JMDL Gallery section.
I feel really good about the cookbook - it looks nice, feels nice and
the recipes are very interesting. I think that Joni will like it very
much and that she will use it!
Many thanks to all who contributed!

Heather & Terry,
Really, I don't want to change a thing....except
for the STANDARD height statement.
Ever since I gave up my platform shoes from
the '70's I've gotten really small.
at this stAGE in my life I wish to God:
I was a STANDARD beauty
I had a STANDARD height
I had a STANDARD weight
and married to president of STANDARD oil

Hi all. Back on the list after a month's hiatus (way too busy at work, I
was deleting everything without reading it).
Good to be back! Maybe I'll even have time to watch the Joni Pay per
view. :-) I've had it on tape for a month!
On the good news front, my best friend expressed some interest in Joni
one night while he was at my house. So, for his birthday, I bought him
copies of "Blue," "Hissing" and "Night Ride Home" (Tower was out of
"Hejira"). I think I've made a convert. :-)
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Colin,
I'm almost certain this will be a collection from the BBC archives, rather
than the new PPV, but Colin, please, please, please tape it if you can.
I'll try to do the same at work where we get UK Arena on digital satellite.
Here's the gen:
UK Arena
Saturday 12 December
17:55 to 19:00
Jools Holland celebrates the career of Joni Mitchell, one of the foremost
singer-songwriters of our time. Performances range from the 1970s to the
present day and include her all-time hit, `Big Yellow Taxi'.

The Chieftans record was pushed back to January. I heard an advance of it
last week. The record on the whole is pleasant enough. My fave track
(Joni's) is unfortunately also the track that sounds the least...congruous.
The rest of the record sounds like the Chieftans playing *with* a bunch of pop
musicians. Magdelene Laundries sounds like the Chieftans playing *around*
Joni.
If that makes any sense.

Um, I'm not usually one to ask favours, but is there any way that either
of you could possibly send on a tape of this show to me? I'd pay for
postage, and happily return the tape once I'd watched it.
I'm stuck at home all the bloody time with ME, and don't have access to

Yours Hopefully,

I would be hard pressed for six. But I will punt!
1) Burlap to Cashmere "Anybody out there?" - Steve Taylor's Squint label,
when is the guy going to put out one of his own albums it has been five
years since "Squint" and six since Chagall Gueverra.
2) Delirious "King of Fools"
3) Lucinda Williams "Car Wheels On A Gravel Road"
4) Rich Mullins "the Jesus Record" - what keeps this from being my favorite
is the album was actually recorded on a portable tape player in a Hogan in
Window Rock, AZ. He died in September of 97 and his band put out the album
with guest singers. But his monotone tape for the record company was still
better IMHO
5) Buddy Miller "Poison Love" - August 1997 release but a 1998 for me. His
wife's music introduced me to him. Emmylou, Lucinda, Steve Earle & Jim
Lauderdale along with Julie Miller are usually regulars on his albums.
6) Neil Finn "Try Whistling This"

Joniphiles -
Personally, I'm enjoying reading everyone's top albums of 1998. So much so
that I'm going to open the floodgates to a poll that I've always wanted to
start but haven't dared 'till now. I figure since a lot of people are gone
for the holidays I can get away with this one without being run out of town.
How about everyone's Top 5 Albums of All-Time?? Just five though... no
creeping into a top 100 or anything. If it takes off, I think I'll tab the
totals and put them on the website.
Here's mine...
Top Five Albums of All-Time:
1) (Tie) "Blood on the Tracks" - Bob Dylan, "Hejira" - Joni. Both albums
are 100% pure genius by the two greatest songwriters on the planet at the
top of their game.
3) "On The Beach" - Neil Young. Depression's finest hour... uh... 40 minutes!
4) "Astral Weeks" - Van Morrison. Years and years and years ahead of it's
time...
5) "Who's Next" - The Who. The exclamation point at the end of the
"classic" rock era.
(my above opinions come at no extra charge to you the reader...)
Anyone else?
With humble apologies to the NJC haters....
