I have to agree with Randy. One of the more classic Dylan quotes I've ever
heard: "It takes an ugly voice to be understood."
I never could take Joan Baez seriously.

I bought that Bob Dylan official 1966 bootleg for an xmas gift but ended up
listening to some of it last night. Say what you will about BD's
rudimentary singing/playing skills, but to these ears nobody sounds even
remotely close. Indeed, there's an extended harmonica solo (!) at the end
of 'Mr. Tambourine Man' that's like Phyliss Diller in a windtunnel or
something. Wildness!

Ok, i'm the guy that sent in Cher as one of the top 10 albums, and why
is it so damn impossible to have wide musical tastes.
And the next time i hear anything bad about Cher, I'll get my big ass
Cher 70's hair wig and put the smack down.

damn tell me where you got that Michael. i really like Quasi and have seen

Amps "Pacer", Kim Deal of Pixies/Breeders fame's side project after/during the
Breeders.

oh that's not fair to say at all. i like joni and i'm into hard rock stuff

Pixies, Blonde Redhead, The Breeders, and other stuff. but i also like stuff

So, life has been chaotic lately - lots of changes coming up around the
bend. I need to go downtown during my lunch hour and take care of
several errands.
The holiday madness has descended and parking spots are at a premium.
It takes half of my lunch break to get downtown, park and drive back to
the office.
Errands are done and I get back into the car to drive back to work. I
start singing, "People's Parties" and then I say to myself, "Leslie,
you've really got to get a handle on this obsession with all things
Joni." OK. I'll turn on the radio and see if there's anything else
worth listening to. KPIG, 107 oink 5, Freedom, California. Familiar
minor piano chords. "It's coming on Christmas, they're cutting down
trees..." My timing was perfect, this was a message from God. KPIG
does not transmit genuine junk food for juveniles.
Happy Hejira.

I don't understand all the knocks on Stevie Nicks. Sure all her albums may
not be masterpieces but the same can be said of any artist. I think she is
an incredible talent. She is a great singer and wonderful songwriter who
has passed the test of time,
unlike some of the one hit wonder "flavour of the week" artists out there.

It more or less proves nothing except how your personal musical tastes run
(which has value enough in itself -- why should it need to prove any more
than that?). I could *almost* feel sorry for you, though, for all the good
music you are missing through your ageism and apparent willful ignorance.

Aren't The Chieftains supposed to be releasing a new album this month, with
Joni doing Magdalene Laundries?
I just checked CDNOW, Musicblvd, and Tower, and don't see any mention of an
upcoming new release by them. Does anyone know if the release date was pushed
back?

What the heck... here's my top 6 CDs released in 1998:
1) Bob Dylan "Live 1966" - simply the greatest concert ever imho.
2) John Martyn "The Church With One Bell"
3) Mollie O'Brien "Big Red Sun"
4) Lucinda Williams "Car Wheels On A Gravel Road"
5) Bela Fleck "Left of Cool"
6) Bill Frisell "Gone, Just Like A Train"
Joni (gasp) didn't make the cut.
And this, of course, proves absolutely nothing thank you...

I can't wait to check out some of the favs posted to the JMDL -- especially
Ray of Light. I was turned onto Jeff Buckley by so many great things I read
on this list and am very glad I paid attention.
A few of the following were released in 1997 but I think they still count.
1. Joni Mitchell Taming The Tiger (my new favorite)
2. Dave Matthews Band Before These Crowded Streets
3. Dave Matthews Band Live At Red Rocks
4. Jeff Buckley Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk
5. Bjork Homogenic
6. Nine Inch Nails The Perfect Drug Versions
7. Pet Shop Boys Somewhere (Forthright Vocal Mix)
8. Pat Metheny Group Imaginary Day
9. Herbie Hancock Gershwin's World
10. The Doors Box Set
