He was interviewed in Mix magazine a couple of yers ago regaurding his work with Joni, especially
DJRD. I have a copy of it somewhere. He appears to be doing better now. He did mention that he
had to retire due to some illness. I'll try to find it and post it.

"The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress" is on Charlie Haden's record with Pat Metheny,
"Beyond The Missouri Sky: Short Stories By Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny."
The Metheny album is "Secret Story."

Subject: STAS t-shirt idea
For the first time in many many years I just listened to "Song to
a Seagull". For several reasons I feared the reconfrontation with
STAS, which I first heard in 1970, when I was 21, wearing flowers
in my hair. Would the old momories hurt? Would the quality of the
songs be disillusion?
Yes, it did hurt a bit. But, strangely enough, the main impression was:
these are really *good* songs! Maybe not as sophisticated as what came
later. But, as for this special feel of calmness and purity, this intensity
IMO has hardly ever been reached again. For me, the very rich Joni
pallet would defenitely be poorer without STAS.
So, my t-shirt idea for today, which, I believe, has not been mentioned so
far is:
front: "Someday I may know you very well"
back: "Someday I will know you very well"

Yes, it is called "If I Could" and it is on Seal's last release. Joni
doesn't enter into the song until about a third of the way through.

Hello In There,
How are you? Feeling fine? Wanna hear about a new CD I've
been playing lately? Wanna put it in your own CD-player?
Freebo - The End Of The Beginning ( Bassline )
Freebo is primarily known as a bass and tuba player. For 10
years he recorded and toured with Bonnie Raitt. He also did
record with Maria Muldaur ( "Midnight At The Oasis" ) and
John Mayall ( "A Sense Of Place" ), as well as countless
other artists and albums.
Freebo has been writing his own songs in a variety of styles
since the mid - 80's. Thirteen of them wound up on his current
CD, which he co-produced with his drummer Michael Jochum,
including the ballad "How Do I Say Goodbye", featuring his old
partner Bonnie Raitt on accompanying vocal.
Other players on this great album includes Mark T Jordan, Marty
Walsh, Jerry Donahue, Walter Trout, Albert Lee, Paul Barrere,
Catfish Hodge, Chuck Negron, Leo Nocentelli, Sam Clayton,
Valerie Carter, Steve Forman, Tommy Mars and a cast of 1000's!
If you're interested in a copy of Freebo's CD, you can get it
from :
http://www.freebo.com
or mail Freebo himself at :
freebo@freebo.com
You won't regret it ! ! !
Take care,
Peter

Subject: bad photo
Hi all
I was wondering about that bad pic of Joni that was talked about a
while back. I think it may have surfaced in Oz.
The Sydney Morning Herald did a story on oni with her on the cover of
their weekend magazine. I am quite impressed with their photo quality
and content most of the time but the pic of Joni on the cover is a
shocker
Is it the same pic as was in the New York Whatever?
She has a Green hat on ,left hand on her head, thumb near her ear and
fingers up top.Purple velvet jacket by the looks of it and under that
a green vest then an orange shirt.

Subject: CD Spree (NJC)
took a CD spree today with money I've been saving for two months. Here's what
I highly reccomend:
Beck, Mutations: you now are commanded to get it because it's just so AWESOME!
his last record, Odelay, didn't float my boat 'cos it was really sooper-
produced, but Mutations is much more bare much more folkie. the tunes are
amazing and i think loads you would enjoy it.
Creeper Lagoon, I become Small And Go: sort of low-fi indie rock, or POWER POP
as my friends in Soar would say.
The Pixies, Doolittle -and- Surfer Rosa: very inventive college rock type
band. they're not together anymore, but i really luv their tunes and lyrics.
plus kim deal from the breeders and the amps was in it. i'm luvin Kim.
Cake, Prolonging the Magic: John McCrea, who fronts Cake, has an interesting
voice. Their newest record is really a trip with some funny lyrics (Satan is
my Motor) and inspired melodies (the highly aired Never There).
Blonde Redhead: futuristic bjork like independent rock. not for everyone.
tripped me out too.
Garbage, Version 2.0: i'm a little late getting on the Garbage truck (get it?
ha ha), but their second album is post-apocalyptic techno rock. really
interesting stuff.
ciao and XO

Subject: Thanks to all my Detroit Joni concert buds....
Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to say a few things to my Detroit concert buds --first it was a
supreme pleasure to have met all of you---and shared the "day" with you in its
GLORY!
You people were the ONLY people that understood why I was goin' to the concert
at 39.5 weeks PREGNANT! You all were so nice to look out for me and help me
when needed! Anyways---the next part of this message--is from earlier-----
Drew and I are home safe and sound.....We are both doing quite well all
considering. It was so nice to get home from the hospital to all your great
messages. I'm sure my favorite buddy Amy had something to do with the news
traveling THAT fast....:) I know that word travels fast over the super highway
and even FASTER on the JONI-highway....but WOW! Amy was so nice to come and
see us at the hospital....Brought my hubbie a Golf magazine (he was diggin'
it), A big sister t-shirt for my 3 1/2 yr old, a box full of goodies for Drew
- --a cute little outfit , socks to match and a sensible winter hat :) And the
two most appreciated.....was a cold beer--(for nursing purposes only -of
course) and her massage oil and gave me a great foot massage........AMY is
awesome!. Now I have to caught up on my digests!!!! Maybe I'll even post one
of these days....I DO have to tell you that my Doctor had no problem with my
choice of c-section music in the operating room----TTT ! I was in there longer
than we orginally thought---so we heard the full cd TWICE!!! Actually in the
middle of the operation the cd had ended---and my doc looks over the sheet at
me and said " Uh-oh...looks like we ran out of Joni " a few seconds later TTT
started up again---I'm assuming a nurse cranked it up one more time for us!!!
So my son was indeed born into Joni-- and at the concert a few days before!
Wish I had started my life out like that---if I had--I'd be a much different
person---! :) Lucky kid!
Thanks for all the well wishes...
Blessed Be...
Kelly

Subject: Siquomb???
Please excuse my ignorance but, what does Siquomb mean? I noticed that it's
the name of Joni's publishing company and a lot of people here refer to it
but, what does it mean? It sounds like a native American word. Would
somebody clear this up for the newbie?

Subject: TR, IV CD, Dubs, Resolution
Hi everyone,
Someone recently asked about folk singer Tom Rush, and as it turns
out, I've had some recent contact with him. In fact, come December 1st on
JM.COM, I'll be launching Part 1 of my Conversation with Tom Rush from
earlier this year. He recorded Joni's song, "Urge For Going" in 1967 and
that version has more than once been credited by her as the first cover
of any of her songs. He's still performing and he and I talk about that
part of his life as well as other subjects such as the times he stayed at
Joni and Chuck Mitchell's large apartment in Detroit in 1966, and the
occasions when Joni opened shows for him on his tours. Tom does have a
Website, but he's not directly involved in it's building or maintenance.
Once the pages with my Conversation with Tom Rush are up, there will be a
direct link between his site and mine.
Reprise Records is putting out a promotional disc containing radio
DJ Jody Denberg's IV with Joni from last September. This CD is apparently
not a part of the record company's "Words & Music" series, but is called
simply "A Conversation With Joni Mitchell," with a new self-portrait
painting by Joni on the cover. This disc will be sent to radio stations
around the world who hopefully will play it along with Joni's new album,
Taming The Tiger. Some copies of the new IV CD will soon be given away in
a contest sponsored by Reprise, and I'll alert you when the contest
begins. Joni's new IV disc clocks in at over 69 minutes, so it's the full
program that Jody aired back on October 4th. The disc itself is very
similar in style and design to the Geffen Records release "A Special
Conversation For Radio" (from 1988), which was put out to promote Joni's
then-new album, Chalk Mark In A Rain Storm.
Ginny from the JMDL wrote and asked for my opinion on her offer to
dub copies of Joni's recent TV special. I told her this: "Hi Ginny,
thanks for writing. I'm been thinking about this exact subject since I
saw your post about the dubbing. I have always supported a "limited"
distribution of archival JM material on video and audio; It's part of her
history and the fans and scholars deserve the right to enjoy and
appreciate it. In this case though, the video in question is being
released for sale in the near future (I should have an exact date within
a week). This could mean that your dubbing of a bunch of copies might cut
into sales of Joni's video when it hits stores." It's just my opinion.
A couple of people wrote here about wanting some Web images to be
seen as larger. Well, you can increase the size of items on your computer
screen by changing your "resolution" settings. On my MAC, I go to
"Monitors & Sound" in the Control Panel, and there I can make temporary
changes to my screen. Or, you could save the Web image and then open it
up in an image-editing program such as Adobe Photoshop and enlarge and
examine it there.

sorry in advance for butchering her name ( I've only heard it, not seen it)
A few weeks ago NPR did a piece on Marian Macpatland's ("piano jazz")
birthday and they did a mini interview with her.
She mentioned that she would really love to have Joni Mitchell as a guest ....
...THAT would be so lovely, I love her show and it would be .
such a wonderful forum for an artist like Mitchell.
I hope this happens !!!!!
