As you've seen on those pages, my official reporter/photographers took some great photos of Joni at all but two of the shows-Minneapolis, Minnesota and Kanata, Ontario. The situation that prevented any photos being taken for one of these shows was that my photographer arrived too late to shoot songs #2, 3, and 4 (the permitted time for taking photos) in Joni's set. The situation that resulted in the second page being sans any images was a problem with the photographers film. These things happen. Frankly, I had told myself before the tour started that if I got good shots of 9 of Joni's 11 shows, I'd be happy, and that's exactly how many I got. In addition, I got reports on all 11 shows from my reporters, along with hundreds of other reports from folks on the Internet. But no photos does leave a lack on those two pages. So, does anyone out there have photos of any kind from either the Minneapolis, Mn. or the Kanata, Ontario shows? I'll even consider shots from far away from the stage, since some image is probably better than none. Thanks, folks! Reprise has just released the latest in it's line of "Words & Music" CD's, this one featuring the interview with Joni from last September conducted by Jody Denburg of KGSR-FM, Austin, Texas. Reprise will soon be running a contest which you can enter to win a copy of this promotional disc, and I'll refer you to their contest page when it's ready. I'm now running a contest myself which involves this year's birthday card to Joni from all of us here in her Internet Community. I invite you all to re-visit the pages containing the images of the card, and to find and name as many of the 17 different images placed on the artists palette as you can. There are people, places and things placed there which I feel are an important part of the palette of Joni's life. A couple of the images are hidden perhaps too well, therefore it may be difficult for anyone to find all 17, so the person who names the MOST images will win a Taming The Tiger poster, courtesy of my own collection. Email your answers to my address above. Deadline for your entry is November 27th. You can view Joni's birthday card (both sides. now?) at this URL: http://www.jonimitchell.com/BDCard1198.html Later, Wally Breese The Joni Mitchell Homepage http://www.JoniMitchell.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Nov 1998 03:11:10 -0500 (EST) From: pswmusic@interport.net (Esquizito) Subject: By the way (NJC) For those of you who realize that caninekind is superior to humankind: www.interport.net/pswmusic/dorian.html (Please no privates telling me how beautiful he is, Thanx anyway.) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Nov 1998 05:07:29 EST From: FredNow@aol.com Subject: Re: dylan's guitarist (njc) Date: Thu, 19 Nov 1998 12:04:11 -0500 From: "Berger, Everett (NJAOST)" wrote: >>Does anyone know who is the guy playing guitar with dylan on the >>tour? Third, my Joni "Sound Byte"/T-Shirt would say "between the foreceps and the stone" with the concept that all that other stuff falls in there somewhere... Fourth, and last, favorite Joni cover HAS to be "That Song About the Midway" by Bonnie Raitt - it's the only cover that outdoes the original, IMO. So much warmer and visual than Joni's version which is good, but a little flat in comparison. And I love Cassandra Wilson, looking forward to seeing her here in '99 at the Peace Center, but I STILL don't see what all the hoopla is about her "Black Crow", but everyone is entitled to their opinion, I suppose! Oh, I lied, one more thing: I heard some samples from the new Seal disc - there's a track called "Princess" that sounds like Joni's playing style & chords. I'm sure she doesn't but since she was on his last disc, it sounds like a definite influence. I've always found it a bit of a ping-pong game around the edges -- piano ballads here, guitar intricacies there, Joni soaring in her LOTC soprano now, then drifting into the warmer, earthier registers of 'Hejira' -- it seemed a set of songs that couldn't figure out which way to go. But now the poetry is shining through. It's the season I think. 'Cold Blue Steel ...' is truly a melody of falling amber leaves in a light wind. "Let the Wind Carry Me" ... I'm thinking "Facelift" got its start right here. What a wonderful, universal expression of the dynamics of parenthood, and the inevitable havoc wreaked on the psyche of the child. "See You Sometime" ... does anyone listen and not feel their soul laid bare? Perhaps it's the old longings for preserving the past, or a kinder/gentler version in a memory. I always left myself open to the old lovers -- you know, call me ... if you need me I'm there -- they never did, do or will. Instead, Joni wrote this song ... it's a cherished souvenir. "You Turn Me On ..." -- still the hit. I think this is the Joni the mass audiences wanted to hear. The one that grew up and moved away, discovered jazz and met Jaco ... never to return. "Woman of Heart and Mind" -- 'Hejira' starts right here. You can hear the pillows of Joni's wanderlust being fluffed up here. Great song, but somehow unfinished for me. As I said, 'Hejira' finishes the feeling started here. "Judgement ..." -- my lovely wife's favorite SIQUOMB song. So I hear it and I think of her -- it's just not possible for me to listen objectively anymore. Oh well, something's lost and something's gained in living every day! Thanks for letting me wander ...
