I can't imagine how they could have edited one word and will rush out tomorrow morning to buy it. I am so proud of you! I have no doubt that Joni will read it and deeply appreciate it. Thank you for stating so eloquently what bothered so many of us about that snide article. It will hopefully generate a lot more interest in TTT. I'm a piano teacher. >about big sur (that's a beauty too!) when were you in this country? It's been a while. In 1970 I went to California to visit a girl friend I met in Spain and stayed for half a year crusin' around, mostly in the west (Cardiff by the sea [where she lived], San Diego, Venice, Big Sur, San Francisco, Portland, Phoenix, Gran Canyon, Yosemite). It was a great time. We got robbed twice! >what do you think of taming the tiger? I tell you in a different msg, changing the subject line. All the best! - - Juerg - ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Oct 1998 08:22:42 +0100 From: "Juerg Loeffler" Subject: Re: Taming The Tiger >what do you think of taming the tiger? I love it. It sometimes appears to me, that, through all the years, Joni has always been in search of her "real" voice. Now, with TTT i think, she has gotten pretty close to use her voice at its full potential, without any tricks and singer attitudes, such as unmotivated vibratos (which somehow spoils "Blue" for me) or evading in falsetto. Just simple, honest singing like the way she opens "No Apologies". The overall character of TTT strikes me gentle and smooth. It looks like Joni has made her peace with herself. I find, in order to catch all the nuances, it's a good idea to use good earphones. Maybe my loudspeakers just aren't as good, but I always find a whole lot of differences listening to Joni with earphones. Some of my favorites are: Love Puts On A New Face: Very intimate, very personal. Great song, great arrangement, great singing. 45 years of Camel Lights (?) have also done their thing . Taming The Tiger: I don't care the nasty words, it's a beautiful song. Let's leave her her little frustrations. She presents herself "outside, breathing the air", that's from where she sings in a warm and gentle way. "Nice, kitty-kitty" is a mind blower. Stay In Touch: Joni at her best. More personal than ever. Singing from me to you. The middle part starting with "During times like these..." I consider as one of the most touchy and magical moments of all her recordings. The way she says "No doubt!" is just breathtaking. My Best To You: Very special. Very simple and straight ahead. But saying I love you is a simple thing, I guess. Has any singer put more love into a phrase than Joni, when she sings "May your sky be blue" for the first time? Tiger Bones: The kinda song that could go on forever. I like the sound of this warm guitar. I wish there were more "bone" versions of other songs, such as "A Strange Boy" (my all time favorite). Duane, Your offer of a delicious brunch and opening your home sounds great. Sorry for not responding sooner, but since I haven't heard anything from BDTS don't even know if I'm going to the concert and didn't want to make any definite plans. Everyone on the NYlist, Do you all have your tickets? I'm getting really edgy waiting for mine. I've seen the offers on the list of tickets, but don't really want to buy another one and then have two to sell, which I might not even have time to do if it's a "will call" situation (oh god, hundreds of people trying to pick up tickets at one window!!! I'm not happy today with my decision to go with BDTS.) Does anyone else feel like they're on hold regarding this concert? I object this whole thread. Well I must say that I thought astrology was a bunch of crap until an astrologer whom I barely knew challenged me to a reading for free back in 1982. She knew so much about me that I suspected she had hired a spy! Then she gave me a five year projection of major events yet to occur in my life and I didn't give it a second thought. I never saw her again and can't even remember her name. When I discovered her astrological projection among my files in the late '80's I was absolutely stunned! She had pinpointed every turning-point in my life with amazing accuracy to the specific date. I do remember her telling me that our sun sign is greatly influenced by our moon sign and rising sign, something like: the sun sign represents our ego, the moon sign represents our emotions, and the rising sign represents the way people perceive us. The more I contemplate the zodiac the more I see how this is true in my case and many others. The way I look at it, if the sun, moon and planets can affect auroras, tides, communication satellites, etc., etc., then they must certainly influence people, too.
