Does yours still air actual music videos? ;-) Oh yeah, The Real World. They lived at Pier 70 about a block from where I work. Never saw hide nor hair of them (in person, that is). Most of Seattle was less than thrilled to have them & less than sorry to see them go. Boring! The old man is snoring... Joni's a big-time dancer - wait till you see the Warner Bros. taping on video. And she is very fit and full of energy - I hope to look half that good when I'm her age. I bought eight copies today at Tower ($13.99 is their sale price, but I paid much less cause of my dear friend). I also scored another promo which is virtually the same as the release, but nice for my extended collection. SO, if you are on my Christmas list, you know what I am giving this year. I also bought Mikey tickets to N' Sync and Janet Jackson today, so my wallet is a little sore, but I'm happy. I guess I can't stay out to late after the show tomorrow night, so I can wake up early and catch Good Morning. I am glad to buy multiple copies of the CD, not so much to make Joni richer, but to spread her music to people who will enjoy it. It's also fun to fuck with the machine. I know that Tower only bought a couple of boxes of TTT (about 60 CDs), but while I was there today I saw an insane amount of Squirrel Nut Zippers CD (maybe a few hundred). So I'm hoping I set off some kind of indicator, that will make them order more and feature it prominently in the stores, and have that trickle down effect. Don't get me wrong here Zipper fans, I love these guys and a few of them are friends of mine (Tom, Ken, and Jimbo who all worked on my friend Joe Tullos' record), but it would be nice to see Joni break the barriers. Just really glad that I had TTT to listen to - it is really great to have a new Joni cd to discover. Throughout different moments of the day I found myself singing different parts of different songs and laughing and scheming as to how to beat the time zone problem to get good seats at the Toronto and Ottawa shows. A few minutes ago, I put on C&S. God, it is brilliant. I've been loving TTT and listening to TI a lot. But I love the 1970s Joni. Is it that I get to reminisce and discover new thoughts and images simultaneously that is so appealing - as opposed to just discovering with the newer stuff? Is it merely that one remains true to the music one grew up with in high school? Or is it that the older Joni is simply better? I'm loving this. At the Toronto show, will I be one of those irritating juke box lovers who shouts for her to play "Raised on Robbery"? I doubt it but I'd love to hear "Help Me" and think "Quiche Me" and laugh and cry and get the same release. I like the sound of the VG8 and Joni's mature voice, but I'd love to see her sit down at the piano and play any of the songs she did so well back then. At least I'll get to hear 'Just Like This Train' and laugh with her when she smiles at the bit about receding hairlines and know thqt it fits me a whole lot better thqn it did when she first sang it. Oh sour grapes, because I've lost some hair. Brett np: Trouble Child ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Oct 1998 00:57:29 -0500 From: "Julie Z. The fabulous feline cd! The music, she purrrs! How is it that I feel as if I have been given a most precious present by Joni Mitchell? And I never expected to be so touched. My children are drawn to the paintings and ask about the artist. To me, it's her most romantic album. I treasure the lyrics in "Stay In Touch." "Part of this is permanent, part of this is passing, So we must be loyal and wary not to give away too much till we build a firm foundation and empty out old habits. Old Habits. Stay in touch. We should stay in touch. During times like these the wise are influencial. They can bear the imperfections. They can keep harmony. No doubt about it. No doubt that's essential. No doubt! That's always been a tricky one for me." -Whadaya gonna do? There is a documentary that was shown on PBS years back which had something to do with the rural American South. At one point the narrator wants to buy a bunny rabbit for a child. He finds out about a place that sells them. So, he drives out to the place. Outside there is a crudely painted sign that announces: "Rabbits for Sale. For Pets or Meat." I can agree with much of what Difranco says. I've always thought that Joni did not want to be placed in a category with females, especially feminists. I understand this on many levels. Sometimes she shoots herself in the foot though(so to speak). Joni is so hyper-critical. I think Joni is an artistic genius (big surprise) but I often think that as a person, she might drive me up the wall. Of course, I don't know. I've never met her and I don't think I want to. I like being able to appreciate her as an artist, from a distance. Anyway, ever since Joni got that restraining order, I haven't had a choice! ;) Just enjoying the discussion.... joejoejoejoejoejoejoejoe _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
