I called our local music store in our little mall this morning and they couldn't find it. (made sure they were Soundscan contributor). So I called other stores in the next biggest town and they had it. Before driving 30 miles and after running errands I decided to see if my little store had found it. They had 2. I will go back in a few days and make sure the second one has been sold. I think they've underestimated too. After hearing many of the songs on the tape tree I wondered if they would be the same. They are sooooo much better! The beginning of Harlem in Havana is fantastic, so interesting, so novel! I could go on and on but The paintings! WOW! It's like having your own little coffee table book of great art! And the Cats! I have 2 myself and have always pictured myself in my old age with 20 cats in some old house that all the kids say is a witches house. This makes me laugh! I feel so blessed! I think so too! each new albumn is an invitation for me to follow along a new one of joni's music/poetic/artistic path. i'm completely charmed and hooked on this one!(even on lead balloon! ha!). and don rowe's comments about deconstructing the songs- i agree totally! It's music structure that seems familiar- like a memory of a song- but on closer listening- it's pieces of sound and aural textures combined to create the simulacra of songs. man from mars rocks. Burt Bacharach- eat your heart out. no apologies- what a great surprise. This is the song that sex kills & dog eat dog aspired too. It's the intelligence of passion play with such a focused vocal and musical delivery. face lift and crazy cries of love need to be played on every bottom-, middle- & upper- of-the-road radio station. I can imagine people listening to their favorite light radio station- nodding to and humming to their favorite rehashed pop rift on song after song- then crazy cries comes on- and there's this numbing effect- an sonambulistic haze when the humming stops- the formula escapes the brain- followed by silence- then a certain uncertainty about what that person just heard or was thinking or was doing- and whamo- the song hits the brain- fresh- probably about the time when it swings up into the 'all night cafe' part- the listener is opened and thinks- hey- i like this song..... it ends - they smile and make a mental note to get the albumn-- then airsupply comes on and it's back to the usual.... enough for now..... but gene has a theory- well- two in fact.... TI & TTT are so similiar in packaging- so he thinks it's part two of trilogy- the third to be released in 4 years. 2nd theory- Joni on the cover of time magazine... i'm so happy- even if while listening to TTT and working in the studio- my metal utility shelf collapsed- sending 1000s of slides, photos, magazines and art supplies scattering across the room. i'm so happy- even now when i'm soooo flat broke and in debt that i can't buy tickets to the concert, or a plane ticket to DC or anything- and will probably have to cancel everything this fall in order to get back onto financial dryland.... well- maybe i'm not so happy...but i'm content. d. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Sep 1998 01:28:32 -0400 From: Marsha Subject: Re: Charging for TTT > Mark D. wrote: > > > Just outta curiousity, how much did everyone spend for TTT, not including > tax or shipping?
