Hello fellow beings in JMDL Land,
I was inspired by Morten Feiring's first time message to the list today to
open up my mouth and say a word or two. Also, after reading accounts of
the JoniFest at Ashara's - I was determined to come out of the woodwork and
make myself known. This is a little awkward, so please bear with me.
I am fairly new to Wally's site, and found out about the site and Wally
after reading an article about him in The Washington Post (in June '98 I
think). I hope Wally is doing great given his current health condition,
and wish him lots of love and healing white light to envelope him 24/7.
Since my discovery of JoniMitchell.com - I checked out JMDL to learn more
about what JMDL is, and what kinds of topics are discussed. So far I've
enjoyed the list when it pertains to Joni, but have little patience for 1)
in-house bickering and 2) Non Joni Content stuff like the Clinton Scandal
for example. I regret not going to A Day in the Garden, but being a
person who feels unsafe in huge crowds and expecting a rowdy crowd at that,
I shied away. Now after reading everyone's accounts of the concert, I
feel even more dejected and sorry for myself that I didn't go!!
I will use Morten's format to describe myself. . . I was born in 1961
and discovered Joni at the ripe old age of 11. One of my older sister's
use to play For the Roses while she taught me ballet exercises in her
bedroom! Since that time, I have been a *huge* fan, and was blessed to
see and hear Joni in concert at the Nassau Coliseum sometime in the '70's.
I drifted away from her beginning with the Mingus album, but came around
with Turbulent Indigo. Now I eagerly await T T T. I should mention that
now I like the older albums I once rejected, and regret giving them away!
I too would love a copy of the August issue of MOJO magazine. I live in
New York City, so if anyone close by has details please let me know how I
can obtain a copy (or photocopy).
Thanks. I will talk with you again.

kenny g and steve are coming.
plus, roberto, ric and i. still a few non-answers. kay ashley was
interested and has a birthday that week, too. cool!
dinner is at 9:00 pm, tanti baci, 163 west 10th st. it's just a little
east of 6th avenue, on the north side, down a few steps.
we're also thinking metropolitan museum of art, saturday afternoon. i'd
like to meet there at 3 pm, right at the circular info booth in the great

no other definite plans. tanti baci is near the closest thing new york has
to a jazz corner, so we'll go look for cheap live music after dinner.

Happy Birthday to Jmdl parody/trivia guy, Bill Dollinger, who is loved by
so many of us and my long lost catholic school brother.... He is being
treated to an Ethiopian dinner as we speak. (Good air--good water--good
earth.)
If Sept 9th is your birthday, Syndey Omarr says You will be told, "You
have healing hands!" (Woooo baby, Dollinger!) Interest revolves around
medicine, healing arts. Aries Libra persons play significant roles in your
life, could have these letters, initial in names: I and R. ( as in Irvin
and Ron?!?!?) You might be on the verge of discovering a method or machine
aimed at helping the handicapped. (More parking lot spaces?) On a personal
level, love relationship becomes intense, could be leading to change of
marital status. (ahem.) Possible change of residence will occur during
December?!?!? (Oh, what does Syndey Omarr know anyway...)

Well, it was a pleasant surprise discovering that our young Mr. Chili
looks more like the son of Tom Selleck rather than son of Jerry G.
Something tells me that at many internet gatherings, it's often the
opposite that occurs.

Tonight I'm off to see miss Paula Cole at the Troubadour. It'll be great I

alone, but that's okay. I can hook up with some other Paula fans (those
precious few of us). Oh yeah..don't tell the 'rents Paula's set is at 10:00!
Oh well. Of course I'll post a full review tommorow...when I get home from
school.

Subject: Sunday Ride Home
Hi Dear Sweet Ashara!
Finally I get a chance to write some more. Arriving home was somewhat
overwhelming, between my husband's birthday, playing a gig, and going back
to work, I had a full schedule.
Just wanted to express again how much I enjoyed meeting you and being a part
of the Jonifest. Thank you for offering me a space to sleep in your sacred
office. I did sleep very well! Thank you also for the video tapes. What a
treasure. I started watching them on Monday afternoon with my husband. I got
to the part where Joni was like really young on the Dick Cavett show (I
believe that's his name). I was close to tears seeing this segment. I have
never seen any video footage of hear being so young. I was completely
enthralled. Just how she stood there singing The Fiddle and the Drum - she
was already such a confident performer. Wow. During the interview part, she
seemed so girlish and young, it was so strange to watch. Thank you, and all
of those that make these video tree tapes happening.
Also, on my way home from the Jonifest, I was so psyched because I had made
a tape of the advanced TTT CD. So after I left all the Boston traffic behind
and could relax with a nice quiet stretch ahead of me, I popped in my TTT
tape and tuned my ears to Harlem in Havana (what a great song and
arrangement), then strangely enough it sounded like a break or quiet segment
and then it seemed Harlem in Havana wasn't over yet, however the lyrics were
the same. I thought strange but kept on listening, when I heard the Harlem
in Havana for the third time, I was struck with panic, flipped the tape and
....more Harlem in Havana. Somehow when I hit the repeat button on the
stereo to repeat the album when it had cycled through, I must have hit the
track repeat. Needless to say I was really disappointed. Nothing like being
all ready to hear Joni's newest album and being teased over and over again
with the opening track. Oh well, hearing it before its official release date
does not seem to be in my stars. Thank god I had tape tree #6 which I
managed to tape at Ashara's house to comfort me. Especially when I heard
some of the songs that will be on TTT. Comforted by beautiful JM
performances and interview, I surrendered to my fate of having to wait for
TTT.
Just felt like sharing my Sunday ride home experience and express my
gratitude for a wonderful weekend.

I bought Paula's 1'st album...liked it ok, but didn't grab me...nor did
the
cuts I heard off of her 2nd outing. Then I saw her at the Vancouver finale
of the Lilith tour. I have to say it was one of those rare moments of
discovery.
It seemed as if a veil had been lifted and I believe my jaw actually dropped
in amazement !
She was incredible !
Outstanding !!!!!!
enjoy the show !
looking forward to the review :)

. It is Sydney Omarr...maybe he dabbbles in the occult on the
side...maybe that's why he's so good at Bridge---Maybe he birthed the
expression: "it's all in the cards."
Yes, Im tab-happy, elipsis-happy too, whatever it takes to get the thought
across.....It's wonderful not to be in grammar class these days...
Hey, I remember when you first came on the list 2 years ago, you only used
lower case and run-on sentences. And look at you now...Iowa schools are
doing a wonderful job. But you've gotta know this, I only allow 'Paul I'
to comment on my grammar usage and puncuation. It's a sore subject with
me. Just ask my husband, unless you **are** my husband pretending to be
some high school kid from Iowa.
Call me suspicious, call me crazy, but that's it Mark Domynatrick/Harpua,
you've revealed yourself---you're busted. There's no way you are a
teenager. It's how you refer to certain subjects in your posts....and now,
you mention that old has been, Jeanne Dixon, who died by the way, in 1997.
Having "that" photo in the jmdl gallery doesn't prove a thing.... How do
we really know it's you? Which jmdlers have you met you or talked to?
Who are you for real? -Julie, **just teasing** just teasing**

No, Sydney Omarr is the horoscope guy. You must be thinking of the actor from
Lawrence of Arabia (?) and Funny Girl whose name escapes me at the moment, but
is a renowned bridge expert.

Oy! It's "Sheinwold on Bridge"! I should know - my bridge champion mother has
read his column and played the daily game religiously since the beginning of
time. But - Sydney Omarr *is* a well-known player, too, and Omar Shariff has
been a world-class champion for years.
