When diana and Dodi were killed in the eraly hours of the 31st, I was up
delivering a litter of Persian kittens. It was Clara's first lot. I kept looking
to see what was happening only to find nothing was. So i got oon this pc and a
little later she jumped on me and propmptly plopped three kittens, just like that,
on my lap. Then I put them in their bed, she hopped in and curled tight around
them and didn't move even to eat or drink for three days.
Anyway, it was an unexpected shock to hear of Dina's death. Unexpected because I
am not a Royalist(I think we should be a republic), I hate pomp and nonsense, I
hate the class system etc. BUT John and I layed in bed and watched them getting
married, knowing full well that she was being set up. Later on learning of all her
difficulties and seeing her overcome them and not letting 'The Firm' beat her, was
something to admire. Not just me but millions of others saw her as a victim(she
was)who got even by becoming a strong and powerful woman(she did). Just as
everything was going well for her, she is killed.
Also, the fact that she was daily in the newspapers and on the tv for years helped
to make her loss more readily felt. It moved me to tears and only the Dunblane
massacre of 16 little children had previously made me do that.

Although I've been told that I'm a pretty fair singer, my cat Chloe finds the
voices of Joni and me -- alone or together -- to be quite annoying.
Invariably when I'm singing along with Joni, Chloe climbs on my lap and nips
at my face. One time I was lying on the floor and she bit my throat in an
attempt to get me to stop singing!

Les - I included a copy of this in my mother's 80th birthday card. She was
thrilled to have a copy at long last. My father (now deceased) was a Baptist
minister and also a friend and supporter of Dr. King. His assassination was a
real blow to our family as my father had died unexpectedly the year before.
As I was 12 at the time, I think I combined memories of my father and Dr. King
into one father figure. Now that I think about it -- it was a wise choice.

Nice one Kakki! I have been known to accost complete strangers in record

anything, and persuade them to shell out... I've also done it with Shawn

I heartily disagree with that statement!! I'd rather be my age now than any

go south(John is 51!) on my loverd one is not something to lookforward to.
But i'd rather be my age now all the same. And the age I'll be after another
almost 40yrs experince. I hust don't want an old body. No not for scoring
but because bad things happen to the body. My friend ivy who is near 80 is
young and and alive in mind and is now in a wheelcahir and in pain. I'd
still rather be 80 tho in the mind, she has much wisdom to offer.

I really dig his first album! Saw him about six years ago in Harrisburg, PA,
He was great. Jill Sobule opened for him. She is a powerful, intense
performer. She was all by herself and she played a Martin travel guitar. She
had a really interesting percussive pick-up sound - strange, not too
acoustic, but it worked really well - she jammed like crazy. And then Jude
Cole ... he had a really great band with him. When I listen to his first
album I am so amazed by all the layered guitar tracks on that album. there
must be about twenty of them on there.
I like his other albums too, but you know how it is ... sometimes there is
one that you have turned inside out and that will always remain your
favorite because you know it so well. JM Blue is kinda like that for me too!

I've also noticed my cat's reactions to various music. He does not appear to
care for Joni ;-( when Joni is playing, he lays around limp, looking depressed
and occasionally letting out audible sighs every time.
He does, however, appear actually to love some music. I can always tell - he
will go sit or relax right next to the stereo and seem entranced. He loves
pretty, mellow music like Nick Drake and he dances to Brazilian music. But his
favorite of all was that album of Gregorian chants produced by some monks,
which was popular a few years back!!

There seems to be enough of us to hold a Irish Joanfest. We could meet up
in the Horseshoe Bar in the Shelbourne to discuss the greening of Joni
Mitchell. At closing time we could ask the management to direct us to
the room she occupied in '83. I wonder have they renamed
it the Joni Mitchell Suite and painted it ....blue (of course). Come to
think of it, I have seen both Van and chief Chieftain Paddy Maloney in that
bar. Maybe they'll come over and join in....

Subject: RE: (SJC) Don't order Joni's new album from Music Blvd.
While I am very, very appreciative of the virtual coupons that were
recently posted here, I am sorry to say that I had a terrible time
with Music Blvd. and would highly recommend that you *NOT* use
them if you wish to receive Joni's new album on the date of release.
A couple of weeks ago I pre-ordered Lauryn Hill's new CD. I followed
all of the instructions on the website, and chose the correct shipping
(Fed-Ex 2-day) to receive it on its release date. On that date, I
checked the status of my order to discover that it had been shipped
out not two days before the release date, but only one. In other words,
it wasn't arriving until the next day. Because I already knew I might
have some trouble being there to sign for it, etc., I was pissed.
Besides, I'm a certifiable music freak, and when I order my music to
get it on the first day its available, I want it on the first date available
goddammit!
So, I called up Music Blvd. and asked them what's up. They were like,
oh yeah, I guess we did send it too late. So I was like, so what are
you gonna do for me? Shouldn't I get some sort of credit since you
screwed up? Give us your phone number, they said, and we'll call you
back.
A few minutes later I got an email informing me that I had received a
*store credit* (i.e. to benefit from it I would have to spend more money
there) in the amount of the shipping charge only. But even worse,
when they applied my credit to my account, THEY ERASED PRIOR
STORE CREDIT I had built up with them through other transactions. I
was fuming. They screwed up, I called them on it, and somehow I lose
credit I had earned?! Screw that!
So I emailed them, asking yet again, what's up? That was Wednesday.
As of tonight, I have not heard ONE WORD back. I sent a follow-up
email today. In the follow-up I promised to spread the word on their
service record, and here I am now keeping my promise.
I have in the past had a wonderful release-date experience with
CD Now. Through them I pre-ordered the limited edition version of an
imminent release. A couple of days before the release date, they
realized that they did not have enough ltd ed copies to meet the orders.
So, UNSOLICITED, they offered me a FREE copy of the regular release
of the album, which I received on the day of release with no problem
whatsoever. I would gladly shop at CD Now again.
So, go to Les's site and pre-order Joni's disc, but if you want it on the
release date make sure to avoid Music Blvd.

Dear Pinny Gig et al:
Lemme take a metaphorical stab at the expression
"You sure are a sight for sore eyes."
Imagine you've been in the desert for days and you've run out of water.
You're hot, tired, thirsty, smelly. Okay? You are so worn that even
your eyes are wrinkled up, squinty, parched, sore. Okay?
Now imagine a movie star of your personal choice approaches you with a
cold beverage of your choice. Would that be a pleasant sight? For your
sore eyes?

Yes, I know I know, but it's just wrong! it just isn't right! it should
be ugly....imagine you have really bad conjunctivitis (pink eye you call
it?) and you've got all this gunk pouring out your eyes and they're all
crusty (ewww) and SORE and then someone makes you look at...i dunno..a
photograph of gangrene or something (!)...now that really would be a sight
for sore eyes!!!!!!!
(pinny gig ha! I'd forgotten about that one!)
Helen. (who remains firm in her own private meaning of "a sight for sore
eyes") !!!

You're good, Mark! Yes, Grace does it on the Great Society album (I have the
funky orange-colored cover one). The band sounds a bit dated 60s, but Grace
sounds her timeless self on it.

Just one last word from your sponsor:
Just in case anyone has been hiding out, climbed the fence, and is still
sitting on it with a very sore....
Well, there are a few things you should know:
1) There will be gifts for all attendees
2) There will be phone calls to the party by some very well-known
personalities.
Hugs,
Ashara {who is laughing at the notion of this being "one last word!" Yeah,
right!}
