From: "Claud SansSoucie" Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 14:54:51 -0400 Does anyone have the David Dye Worldcafe session with Joni Mitchell. I would really love a copy of it! I can't get any station where I live that carries it! I don't recall seeing a tape tree with it. He says that his one month away turned into three as he is remodelling his house on Lake Erie in Dunkirk NY. He has no internet access there, but made a pit stop in Pittsburgh for a few days. He will return in October for good and will then resubc.ribe. I thought I share another one of my musical favorites. Is anyone familiar with The Innocence mission? They are a band out of Lancaster, PA, the area where I live. the albums Umbrella (91) and The Innocence Mission (89) were both produced by Larry Klein. I find that some of the guitar sounds and production remind me of JM recording of that time. I met Karen Peris a while back and hope to get to talk to her one of these days. I would love to ask her about her working with Larry Klein, etc.. I am sure she met JM (or at least I would hope so). Karen Peris's lyrics and her voice are exceptional! Karen Peris also sang the background vocals on John Hiatt's song "Through your hands" off of Stolen Moments (a great album also!) Also is anyone familiar with John Martyn? (hello you UK JMDL's) Especially his Bless the Weather album - which I love and think is his best. I love his melodies, open tuning, and general melancholy mood. From: "Claud SansSoucie" Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 13:54:41 -0400 I am kind of embarrassed to admit, but I was in Philadelphia last night and found a JM bootleg called Joni Mitchell, unplugged and jamming, Volume 2. I was really excited when I first found it - like I couldn't believe my eyes. It had stuff from an old Jonny Cash show on it (like 67 or so). It had a song on there with Fred Neil (whoever he is ) called Dolphins. It had cuts from the Last waltz, and I believe a cut with Pete Seeger (although I am not positive anymore - I have a bad memory for that stuff). The embarrassing part is that I didn't pick it up. Which was for several reasons 1.) I listened to it and thought the sound quality was pretty poor which was probably as good as one can expect considering the time of the recordings. 2.) I know about the tape trees and thought that maybe it is available this way on cassette. Since the poor quality of the CD would be just fine on a cassette. I am not that much a collector that I felt like I had to have it 3.) I had enough money to buy it but that would have been it for me. No dinner, no coffee, no cigarette (I am working on that addiction!). So I opted for all my physical vices - although Joni is a physical necessity in some ways also. 4.) I was so impressed with the intention and the integrity of the tape tree, and I do not really think bootlegs should be profitable for anyone, except for the artist, that I couldn't handing someone $25 bucks for it. It just kind of annoyed me. I felt like I didn't really have a connection with who and why? Does that make sense? Of course now I am tortured with thoughts such as, "you cheapskate you could have gone without that dinner, cigarette, coffee," "you'll never hear it again" "the tape tree doesn't have it" "All the JMDL would have wanted it" "how could I..." you get the idea. So, I can call the store up and get it ... just say so and I'll repent and throw all my ethical considerations aside. Or are you with me... and does someone have it and would like to share it? Oh well, The torture I'm in! I surfed over and learned quite a bit about the guy--very impressive career. Anyway, I filled out a survey and recently got this reply from April, his office manager: >Thank you for filling out the survey on Mark Isham's web site. I have >forwarded a copy of your note to Mark. It's always a pleasure for him to >hear from people who enjoy his music. >You mentioned that you'd like to see Mark do some more work with Joni. >This past weekend he played with her band at Woodstock, which he really >enjoyed. You can also hear Mark's trumpet on a few cuts on Joni's upcoming >album release. I'm sure they will work together again. >Unfortunately, Mark says he "hasn't the faintest idea" what happened to the >Eurogliders! Gratifying to know that he reads his own email--eventually. Phyliss, FYI Norm Gregory is a local legend in the Seattle area radio industry. He started with KJR which was a Top 40 station and then moved over to the great rock station KZOK which I listened to religiously for years. Recently he turned up back at KJR, and continues to ply the Seattle airwaves with his smooth delivery and wonderful choices of music. But Norm, I really don't remember you ever playing much Joni! :-) Welcome to the JMDL.
