It's packaged in a special "pop-up" jewel case, as well: when you open the case, the CD raises at an angle for easy removal. The NRH special edition is a standard CD packaged in a stiff paper case, with metallic blue lettering on dark blue paper, that folds and ties with a string. Never Forever is excellent, but The Dreaming is her magnum opus as far as I'm concerned, with Hounds of Love a close second. Red Shoes is a bummer, as is Sensual World before it (apart from the amazing title-track which is paradoxically her best song of all (again, IMHO). Kate amazed teh world with her first album The Kick Inside, and rightly so. Then she gave us a more thoughtful one, (Lionheart), which was superior to TKI but not as commercial. Never Forever was a more commercial and highly produced comeback album, but nice nevertheless. Then came The Dreaming. Very Dark , very weird, too weird for most, but terrific. Listen to it in the dark, it'll scare the pants off you. There's (for a 'young' british artist) an amazingly succinct song about the Vietnam War called Pull out the Pin. I'd be interested to know what American listeners with some Nam experience thought to it. Next came Hounds of Love. Really excellent stuff, and I prefer the 'slow side' of the 12 inch LP. For me the fast side had a new sound creeping in which spelled the death nell for my love of Kate Bush music. On Sensual World, this new sound was fully developed - a lot of gaelic fiddle and the Trio Bulgarka. I didn't like it, and apart from the title track single which I bought on twelve inch i love it so much, I only played the rest of thealbum three or four times. Red Shoes I didn't even buy, but two years after it's release I borrowed it from a record library and only played it once. it sounded to me like out-takes from Sensual World. Not even Prince could raise my enthusiasm. Unless Kate can come up with a new sound, as far as I'm concerned, it's all over for her. Toobad as I was a big fan. Yes, it does come in hardcover and paperback, the former is relatively expensive but not extremely rare to find one of these versions. Sam and Joni are also in the movie "Renaldo and Clara." Pleasant surprise to find so many posts about him today. I just did a new search for him, and there have been many new additions. One url: www.kingsfield.com/cockburn/ seems to have a lot of good stuff. Seems like the last time I did a search the only thing I came up with was a European web page. On his most recent cd Charities of Night, I really love Pacing the Cage, with a most unique and jazzlike bass solo toward the end. I don't know if it would be beneficial to the Home Page but in the booklet that comes in the 'Jefferson Airplane Live at the Fillmore East' cd there is a plug for their discussion list. It's listed as Cyber info & reads 'Computer owners with Internet access can correspond with other Jefferson Airplane fans on a daily basis by subscribing to 2400 Fulton Street, the Jefferson Airplane Internet mailing list.' It then gives instructions on how to do this. I think it would be great if the JMDL could get a plug like that on TTT. Couldn't hurt Joni, either. It just could be she learned it from being in the choir. I was in one choir or another half my life but as a "second sorpano" was always relegated to singing harmony. It gets to where you hear the harmony more than the melody in a song after awhile. My favorite Joni harmonizing of all is on the song "Long Ago And Far Away" with James Taylor. She is a master of harmony along with everything else, and it's always seemed to me that her melodies sound actually more like harmonies when you hear them (all that alternative tuning, no doubt). "Charity of Night" is instantly enjoyable, with great guitar work, Gary Burton on vibes, Rob Wasserman on bass, and a host of other great players and songs. One of my regrets for '98 (along with not going to the Pittsburgh Jonifest, The Garden, and Labor Day Jonifest) is missing Bruce when he played at a small intimate club walking distance from my house! (New Year's resolution for '99 - make memories, not regrets). Anyway, I don't know one reason why anyone wouldn't think this album is stupendous. Bill Dollinger, I thought your "Partridge Family" list was a total riot - I wish now I would've responded. I even would have made the correct guess! I felt sad when you called it a lead balloon! This morning I plugged the tape of the Gorge concert into the tape deck of my car. I had the strangest reaction. Tears and then outright sobs. I felt like I had received the most wonderful gift. Let me try & explain. When I saw Joni at the Gorge it was the first time I had ever seen her live. I had waited for that concert for about 24 years. I was so keyed up by the time she hit the stage that I think I was in some kind of altered state (without benefit of any kind of chemicals). Then there were people talking all around us almost all the way through the set. I had to concentrate really hard to block them out so they wouldn't ruin the experience for me. As a result of the stress this created or for whatever reason I seemed to have formed a mental block as to what the concert actually sounded like. The pictures were clear in my mind's eye but I couldn't HEAR the music in my memory. Well this morning when I heard the first chords of 'Night Ride Home' it all came rushing back. The tears started to form in my eyes and then I literally started sobbing. And after awhile I was saying out loud to no one but myself 'I was THERE!' This tape gave me back the experience and now I can have it whenever I want. Thank you to Wally & Les and Don Fluke and most of all a HUGE thank you & hug to Simon. The tape trees I have are all wonderful but this one is so special to me. It's an incredible gift and in a way I guess it's from all of you on the JMDL because without you there would be no JMDL and no tape trees. I have a funny button on my stereo-system called something along the lines of "karaoke"...which really only cuts out some of the sound, maybe one track or something, anyway, on some songs when I press this, Joni No.1 quietens right down, an out comes the Joni-choir..through this i have been able to hear stuff you just don't notice normally; all sorts of little yodels in the background.
